Hi everyone, I'm a new-ish member from Canada.
41 year old male.

I've popped in now and again but haven't really posted much.

I've suspected that I'm on the spectrum for some time, but finally got in to see a psychiatrist today.
After about an hour of discussion, and him making detailed notes, and after asking some very personal questions, he agreed that I'm on the spectrum. He referred me to some additional resources as homework on how to better work with it as an adult, and I'll see him again in a month.

There weren't any surprises, I actually feel like a great weight has been lifted.

So.. HELLO!

Well hello Drkshadow76,

Good to see another Canadian on these forums and I see that we're about the same age too. I was recently diagnosed about 4 months ago and I'm a 42 year old guy as well. I have high functioning Autism and more specifically Asperger's Syndrome.

When I was diagnosed I also felt as if a great weight has been lifted from me because it alleviated the anxiety that I might be going crazy or something silly and irrational like that. Finally, a neuro-developmental condition that explains all of my odd behaviors, mannerisms and rigid routines that I love so much.

The downside was that this entire process caused something close to post-traumatic stress disorder so I'm still recovering from that because I chose to ignore the warning signs instead of dealing with them. But something had to be done because I kept getting fired from my jobs to the tune of 9 times and suspended 3 times and I've quit from the rest of my 30+ jobs over the past 25 years. So something had to give.

I hope you enjoy these forms as much as I have.

:D

Hello

Even though you already suspected, it's still a lot to take in. Don't feel you need to get to grips with it immediately, give yourself time :D I was first relieved, then upset as I reevaluated situations in my past, in fact I got depressed, then much happier again. I've noticed this mix in quite a few of the other posts by people being diagnosed later.
Being on here helps me and seems to help them, so hope you stick around.
