Hi I don't know if I have Aspergers but hoping to work out whether I should pluck up the courage for an assessment or not (just to put things straight in my head and hopefully be able to make sense of my life so far).

I have worked with people with Aspergers, learning disabilities and mental health and although I've never done any specific asd courses I've always worked best with those on the spectrum and mental health (mainly anxiety or 'aggressive' outbursts). I don't know what it was but I could relate to them the most and connect with them the most because I just really understood where they were coming from on a lot of things.
Don't know if this is common with others? I don't feel confident to ask my Gp atm. I'm just hoping if I can try and make sense of my social anxiety then I will either be able to either a) solve it or b)accept it and find ways to live with it

Some people with ASD get on better with others who have it. Some don't. Its possible.
If you don't want to get a professional diagnosis you could try taking an online test to get an idea.

Thanks, I have done loads of the tests and they all come up saying I do have traits of it. But I know how unreliable a lot of these tests are as they always say 'never self diagnose' via the internet.
Just don't know

Perhaps seeking an official diagnosis could be ideal if the uncertainty about whether or not you are on the spectrum proves too nagging.

It depends. There are some Aspies I get along with, and others I don't; same with NTs. But as a teenager, virtually all my close friends have been Aspies or possible Aspies. It seems they're the ones who want to be friends with me.

Thanks. That's another thing for me - although I can't say I don't have any close friends - I have found that I've never been able to maintain those relationships for long. I lose touch with people. I've moved house quite a bit as an adult but everytime I have I just cut them off. I have a couple of people atm that I've known for years. They've been through a lot with me and I'm just finding it hard to maintain any socialising atm. I know I get like this when I'm not in a great place, but I know that once I lose touch I won't go back to having as much contact as I have done over the years. I hate it, but I get anxious, worry that they've had enough
of me and start questioning who I am again. My perception of everything just always feels messed up and I worry all the time x

I only had a very short relationship with a female Aspie. we decided to be friends instead becasue we didnt know how to express our feelings to each other. I told her I needed daily communication to let me know that someone (other than my family) was thinking about me. See thought that was too needy. But all (expect one) friends have mental illnesses. So I get along more with people who have mental illness than NT's
