Hi,

I've just joined, so this is my first post. :D

I'm a 32 year old female aspie living in South Wales with my partner (also an aspie) and our cats. My interests include ancient history, knitting, deep sea fish/animals, weightlifting and watching anime.

Thanks for letting me join!

Hi Shahunshah, I am very interested in the Ancient Assyrians, although most of my knowledge of the region is probably more strictly speaking about the Ancient Sumerians. I know there's some cultural and linguistic interaction/overlap. The versions of the Epic of Gilgamesh and Epic of Atrahasis I've read are from the Akkadian texts but I don't read Akkadian myself.

Well it does seem like you know quite a bit. How would you describe reading the Epic of Gilgamesh?

I'm not sure how I'd describe it. There is something very beautiful about the text and the story, but I also found it more immediate and directly relatable than many other examples of ancient literature. I'm sad that the Surpassing all Other Kings version remains so fragmented. There's a certain special quality to Sumerian literature and I'm unsure whether it's because of the translators or the text itself. I ultimately intend to learn to read them in their original language, but I haven't recently has much of a chance to move towards doing so.
