Hi!
I am from Croatia and in the past few months I've become very interested into ASD (read: obsessed) because my 3 year old nephew may be autistic (we're just at the beginning of the evaluation process).
I am not ASD but I can actually understand some of the social struggles most of you here went or are going through in your life - I've had a pretty rough childhood, I was molested by peers at school and kindergarten almost daily, am bad at forming meaningful friendships (I don't have any close friends, just 3 or 4 good acuintances), and have been single my whole life (I'm nearing 30). Also, the reason I've registered here because I think it's much more better to hear experiences from real autistic people, not only NT parents (especially those who think autism is a fate worse than death). In the beginning of my "research" of autism, I was actually very scared and anxious about my nephew's future precisely because of reading first the viewpoints of NT parents, and lots of stuff about autism we're confusing me. But when I ran into accounts of actually autistic people, things have finally started to make sense! For example, hand flapping isn't just a weird behaviour that has to be stopped but a response to sensory stimuli or just an expression of happiness!
Anyway, I hope to find out more amazing stuff about autism and find out ways to be more open to difference :)

P.S. In the end, I must say that I actually very much admire most of you here, and really wish all the best for all of you

That would've been my guess =) The Doors are great.

David Bowie did a cover of that song, too. He appropriately weirds it up just a little bit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc_9EpooJ2o

As far as I know, for kids it should be easier than for the grown ups; I've never heard of anyone here being diagnosed in adult years, but children yes. (At least in Zagreb, at Šalata hospital/medical centre). I don't know about Split - but this is what quick google search brought up:
Aspergerov sindrom - Asperger Hrvatska (fb page)
https://www.facebook.com/pg/asperger.hr ... e_internal

In Zagreb such kids get integrated with the others in the kindergartens....but I guess it depends on the whereabouts.
