Hi!

Call me Pomelo :) I am 22 yo female. A 3rd year university student in Los Angeles. I major in neuroscience (which is absolutely my passion)

I have been quarantined at home alone for 3 months and I haven't made any human contact besides video chatting my bf and texting 1 or 2 friends... My bf is NT. He is very supportive, although he doesn't understand what is it like for me but he tries.

I love good conversations! But I gave up making friends at school since I am tried of masking. I don't understand NT's relationship and small talks, and I'd rather fully devote my time to academics. I have 0 close friend at my current school. So basically, I just go in and out of classes...

These days I just start to realize I need to have a life of my own. I want to make myself at least try to make some new friends! Luckily I found this forum!

If you'd like to be friend with me, PM me! :D

--------- I'd like to keep it short, but if you're interested to know, here are some more facts about me --------

Things I enjoy discussing:

-Books! I started reading recently. I love nonfictions better but also started reading lots of fictions. I would love to enjoy a book club if there is one here on the forum.
-Discussing the whys and hows of anything. Philosophy, psychology (NPD, depression...), social issues and meanings of life... Anything but small talk!
-Enjoy anything creative. Photography, art, museum, fashion... I was quite into social media for a long time but I quitted a year ago. (I will tell you why if you're interested to know)
-I love traveling and the world culture! Especially about food. I love cooking and trying out new things
-Movies and shows. Although I don't have time to watch them for a long time already..
-Discussing about human relationships.
-Meditation and philosophy of life. I try to meditate daily to help ease loneliness since I don't have close friends around me.

--- Some other facts if you are interested to know -----

Why am I here: to make friends and build a community of support

Location: During the school year I'm in USA. During break I'm in Germany with my bf

Plans for the future: I would like to get into a good phd program for Neuroscience. I would like to do something for the autistic community (activism, research...)

Family: I don't live with my parents. They are not aware of my ASD. I have a sister that I am very close with.
I wasn't diagnosed as a kid. (Long story... but I believe very similar like those who found out about ASD in their adulthood)

Welcome to Wrong Planet!

Neuroscience is an interesting subject. I will recommend two books:

In An Unspoken Voice by Peter A. Levine
The Revolutionary Trauma Release Process by David Berceli

Thank you for your book recommendations! I will check them out as I am interested to know about trauma. I always think people regardless of the brain wirings, childhood or adulthood experiences all have had certain trauma in their lives and we all need healings.

One of the differences between Aspies and NTs (neurotypicals) is that we undure signifcantly more stress than the average NT. So much so that it should probably be our middle name.

Stress unless it is properly vented will lead to distress (for example trauma) over time.

Hi and a very warm welcome to you :)! All the best with your studies. I have long been interested in neuroscience and hope you go on to make a difference in your field. I can genuinely say I share ALL your interests, love travelling, reading, advocacy, photography, art, museums, fashion and movies. I love to sew and enjoy art. I've spent alot of time travelling in the past few years, and enjoyed Vienna, among many other places(Iceland, Norway, Amsterdam, Rome, Crete, US, Aus, Japan, Hong Kong) and now hope to visit Bavaria once the world is once again, a healthier place. Would love to hear some of your favourite destinations? My maiden name is German, though this part of my ancestry has never been shared. I had a German exchange student stay with me from Gamish Partenkirchen and need to explore Germany in the future! I'm sorry to hear how isolated you are there and hope you feel among friends here in no time. xx

Yea I agree with you. There are a lot of times I am just so depressed, realizing that I will deal with so much unnecessary stress because the system/society is built based on the preferences of the norm, according to the neurotypicals. But I still try to stay positive. I am glad I found this forum! It really feels good to see that I am not the only one who feels like I am on the wrong planet. Now I just think that I am sick and tired of trying to change myself, to cope and mask... We don't have to feel so tired and stressed. It is really time for NT and the world to change. This is really my biggest hope.

Welcome! I came here to find social interaction as well. I'm new at online correspondence but it has helped a bit. I will probably come back and PM you when I have more time.

In my case I feel it is really time for Aspies to change. To understand that iron chains that bind them are stress which is caused by fear, to break those bonds and be set free. To become the shinning light that guides this world. This is really my biggest hope.

Thank you! I visited Munich and some surrounding areas earlier this year. The food there is very good. And there are insanely beautiful forests and castles. You will definitely love it! Hopefully the world will open up soon!

Welcome....Feel free to practice conversation.

I'm a male NT (as far as I know I'm the only regular one here on WP?) but if you prefer there's a female NT called Teach51 who can also introduce you to the world of NT small talk.
