Well, I finally found a forum where I can talk about my Aspergers Syndrome, and talk to others with it too. Maybe I can finally get help on figuring it out, and how it's affecting me personally.

Well, I'm 20, and was diagnosed loooooonng ago (as early as i can remember), and I had a tough time growing up. People always said I talk too much about only one thing, and never can get off a subject.

So, here's what my aspergers has got me. I am very bad with numbers, and math. The only time I'm good with numbers, is when driving my car and looking at distance and speed, that's about it. (And I prefer my car, which has a digital speedometer, I can't stand analog ones, I can never figure out what my speed really is, with those things)...

The good now, is that it's gotten me very knowledgeable with computers, electronics, and games.
For computers, I can diagnose a problem on a computer, just by looking, or hearing the problems, where others would have to dig deeper. For electronics, I can't read schematics, but in my head I can picture a circuit, and figure out how it should go, without ever looking at my notes. Actually, I don't ever make notes, it's always in my head. Someone told me that what I do, they couldn't even accomplish, especially without notes. And as for video games, I can play only "certain" games, not complicated ones. Games like Sonic and Mario, I can do, but things like Final Fantasy, I struggle very badly.

Some people are afraid of me being even on the road, they feel I'd be a bad driver, but I've been driving for 2 years, and never got into a single accident, and have avoided probably 42 total now (florida drivers).. What's interesting though, is that I can't read maps, directions, or follow a compass. Yet, if I've gone a route atleast once, I can remember it just by visual landmarks (in which I do this to go to college every day, which is a 32 mile drive)...

So, hopefully I can get along with others here, without being told things, or being attacked just because I see things differently than others..

Thanks :)

I forgot to also mention, that with good teachers and good books, I've been able to get some computer certifications, and succeed a little in the world. I haven't gotten a job yet though, that's quite hard.. So, I'm a Aspergers Computer Technician :p

My skills aren't so quite practical, I'm a philosopher and musician.

Music interests me.. My father has aspergers too, and he used to be in a band in Boston, so I got the skills from him. I love the Yamaha DX7, it's my favorite keyboard/synthesizer of all time, and I love the sound of bass guitars, especially slap bass...

Ahh, good old 6581 SID from the C64. Yea, that's a true classic, it had some excellent tunes, especially for it's times..

I like some of Rob Hubbord's music that he did for the SID..

Dear hakemon-

Greetings!

I'm a recent arrival and find it very welcoming here.

I can empathize with your driving experience. Although I have a very good record, when people ride with me driving, especially the first time, they most often act like they're being terrorized!

Wonder why?

Well, it seems that I don't quite act like I'm paying attention to driving the way my passengers would like. I look at pedestrians, trees, birds, read license plates, look out the various windows and into the back seat, and anywhere else that catches my eyes EXCEPT directly through the windshield in front of me or into the rear or side view mirrors.

But, I have very good peripheral vision!

I certainly could improve your standings with people who have seen you drive.

I don't think you have to worry about being attacked here.

I'm an incredible social dolt and haven't even been scolded yet.

So, while here, explore, exchange and express yourself.

May you find the information, inspiration and comfort you seek.

Best wishes.

Alan

Welcome,

Stick with computers, humans are a bother.

I find my way in trackless wilds, and get lost in office buildings.

I think this might be one of the reasons I got into computers, being one of the earliest to learn DOS commands (I learned DOS at the age of 5)..

Thanks for the welcome guys! :)
