In 1993 the Big Chicken was sick and in danger of being torn down.
I knew three people who lived in that area. One had long lived there; two had been coworkers here in the northeast that moved down there. None of the three knew each other but all three knew me.
And when the Big Chicken was in danger of being permanently torn down all three of those folk decided to tell me about it because they thought I would find it of interest. Somehow, I made an impression on all three as being the kind of person who should hear the news about the Big Chicken and get information on how to vote on whether or not it should be rebuilt.
I, of course, voted that it should be rebuilt!
Trivia: There had been reports that pilots flying into Atlanta Hartsfield used the Big Chicken as a landmark. It helped them know when to begin their descents. But the news reports reassured that the absence of the Big Chicken would not create an air safety problem.
As I recall, after the Big Chicken had been torn down and before it was replaced Dobbins had a couple of aircraft crash.
