In no particular order:

Art: drawing and watercolor/gouache painting, acrylic flow painting right now but I need spoons to get anything actually done. My goal is to be a paid artist someday.

Writing: I've always wanted to be a writer since I was a child. I used to write a lot in middle school but lost the skills and am teaching myself them again.

Music: I make playlists every week to listen to on the weekend and try to find new music every week. Music helps me like nothing else. I like to dance as a form of stimming, and got drumsticks to use for rhythm stimming as well.

Gardening/outdoors: I feed squirrels and birds in my yard and grow flowers and plants for pollinators. I'm trying to do tiktok/youtube nature videos with my husband. We go on short hikes/walks and make videos.

Cannabis: Hope this is okay to talk about here, weed is legal where I live and it actually was a big part in me learning about my neurodivergence. I don't smoke (asthma) only edibles. My husband had always had a job where he might get random drug tested until a few years ago so I hadn't really done it ever until the pandemic. It's helped me immensely the last couple of years. I had a bad injury falling down a big hill in snow and messed up my knee and ankle, shoulder, a lot of my body in 2022 and found different things that helped instead of taking pain pills. CBD and CBG specifically.

Movies, Film, TV: I grew up going to a lot of movies from a young age because my dad loved them. I'm interested in all sorts of genres and everything from blockbusters, foreign films, arthouse, horror.

Reading: I'm currently not working but used to work in libraries for many years. I learned to read when I was 3 and started reading adult novels in 1st or 2nd grade because it was all we had around the house. I listen to audio books a lot, almost always have a regular book and an audio going.

Horror: I read and watch a lot of horror, and a lot of my story ideas and art ideas are horror related. I just get a lot of joy out of creepy stuff.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something but feel like I've gone on too long already.

In what way do you struggle with your interests? Do you find they get in the way of other things, or that people find them strange?

One of my lifelong special interests is creatures, and right now I'm excited about nautiloids, shelled animals, and segments. Nautiloids start out their life living in a simple little cup shaped shell, and then as they grow, the shell develops a wall separating the shell into two chambers, one of which contains their body. It continues to separate into more and more chambers throughout the animal's lifetime. Each chamber of the shell was once the main body chamber. It's like how an insect pupa sheds its exoskeleton many times in its lifespan to accommodate its growth, except the nautiloid keeps all of the "shed" shells with it as part of a larger whole. It carries its history with it in a visible way. There's also a tube connecting all of the separate chambers, called a siphuncle. It uses this to take in water and shoot it out again, propelling itself like a jet.

This is a great topic for me because my interests change all the time.

-On TV= Bridgerton, We Are Not Alone and Our Flag Means Death.

-Sport= MotoGP and Formula 1.

-Writing= fanfic, although I'm taking a break for a couple of months as I've written over 100K words of fanfic over the last year! haha.

-Other= ancient graffiti, historical dramas e.g. The Last Kingdom, the seasons.

He's injecting WP (this website) straight into his veins.

Clearly the addiction has reached it's final form.

Oh good because I didn't get it either. I thought he was trying to be cool and say we should all be injecting drugs, not doing other interests

I don’t know. I’m trying to figure that out. But when I was younger I had a habit about lying about my interests, or anything I just liked, to hide myself. I’d get so worried that I’d get too excited and want to share anything and everything I know about x subject, so I would just act very boring and lie and say I have the interests other people around me would have. (Looking back, I did a terrible job at this.) Now I just don’t talk to anyone, so no one asks. So, If I had to respond I think it is because people will find them strange and just how interested I am in something will be unnerving.

I think this sources itself from my mother telling me to not act weird around others, but I don’t know that that means exactly so I just copy other people.

I actually used to do paid commissions online before leaving a lot of my social medias, truthfully it was a great way to make a quick buck, but I don’t think I can do it as much as I used to cause doing too many commissions made me lose sight of personal art.

I’m trying to teach myself how to use watercolor/gouache after using digital for so long, but it is very hard. Guess I gotta keep at it. I am usually impressed by those who do traditional.

Not everyone gets addicted, but it's early days for you, so there's still time
