Hobbies and Interests: storm chasing, reading, singing, photography, philosophy, comics, classic cars, sci-fi and fantasy

Why are you here? I have ADD and a learning disability (and possibility something related to Autism, but not sure), and my partner has Asperger's.

Favorite music: anything that doesn't promote hate and violence

Books: The one I am reading at the moment is called The Mists of Avalon. And my mom loves science fiction, and I wanted to see why she liked it so much, so I read one of her Asimov's issues. I like sci-fi a lot too now.

TV shows/Movies: My favorite show of all time is Xena: Warrior Princess. I'd make her and Gabby president and vice president, if it were up to me. And maybe Laura Roslin and Vala Mal Doran as cabinet members. And Bill Nye the Science Guy as something, but I'm not sure what. My favorite movie is Hitchcock's masterpiece, Psycho. The soundtrack cannot be surpassed, and neither can the ending *toothy grin*

Instrument: I have been playing my grandma's piano since I was five, I think. It is the most beautiful-sounding instrument.

Do you like sports? My dad was a handball champion when he was really young, and he taught me how to play, so I like handball. Plus, if there's a WNBA game on, count on me watching it (or going to see it at the arena with my mom), and of course, the Mets and Yankees. I especially love watching the Olympics.

Family: I'm surprised I have any hair left.

Clothing: I wear whatever is comfortable. But I never like dressy things, or skirts, because it's too girly. Well, too stereotypically girly, anyway.

How did you find this website? GoodSearch

Job: For now, I walk pets. They make me feel better if I'm having a bad day. My own dog does also. He comes over to me and gives me a sad look, then he sits with me and lets me hug him.

Plans for the future? move to Oklahoma and work for the National Severe Storms Laboratory, and help save lives by making warning systems more efficient and effective. Also, I really want to meet Anne Hathaway, Renee O'Connor, and Gloria Stienem.

Any comments? "Indeed."

May as well break the ice...

What is your first name? Sam

Age: 31

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Hobbies and Interests: Going to see bands and movies, reading, aimlessly surfing the internet to acquire useless facts...

Why are you here? My boss dropped hints on Friday that I might be aspie (an 'extreme male brain' he said euphemistically). Since then, I've done two solid days reading about AS (as is my wont with anything that interests me) and doing self-diagnostic tests, which confirm what I've suspected for a long, long while...

When were you diagnosed? No diagnosis yet, but I'll probably be getting on to the matter in the next couple of weeks...

Favorite subjects: History, economics (and informally) technology

Year/Grade: Have done an MA and BA (Hons.) majoring in history, and a BCommerce majoring in economics...

Favorite music: Alt-country (Wilco, Whiskeytown, Old 97's etc), indie pop (New Pornographers, Belle and Sebastian etc) and punk (the Clash, Crass etc). http://www.last.fm/user/surroundfan/

Books: Currently reading Rip It Up and Start again, a history of post-punk music. Mostly non-fiction.

TV shows/Movies: In terms of TV, anything slightly off-beat/'quirky' always appeals as does anything with a dry sense of humour. House and Numb3rs are must-watch shows.

Instrument: Erm... no.

Do you like sports? Love watching (regularly go to see the Melbourne Demons at the MCG), but despise playing.

Family: Mum and dad who are supportive. Brother who is tolerant, but not close.

Clothing: A suit during the week, casual stuff at weekends.

How did you find this website? The wonders of Google

Job: Public servant. Have just started a new job in middle management (which I've got to by mastery of details of extremely technical subjects e.g. regulatory development), which is a problem because I annoy the people I manage and my colleagues immensely. Am trying to get them to remove management responsibilities and have me as a 'senior policy analyst' instead.

Plans for the future? In the immediate future, shed all management responsibilities at work. Longer term, find friendship (and hopefully partnership; not too sure about this whole 'love' thing!)

Any comments? It's nice to know I'm not alone in this!

Age: 30

Location: Chicago area. Evanston to be specific.

Hobbies and Interests: I play DDR, watch Anime, play tons of Video games, and I just finished my first novel.

Why are you here? Got fed up with feeling alone in this. I needed some

Favorite music: May sound mean, but... anything except country. Well... I like Kenny Rogers and his ilk, so I guess I should make an addendum: anything but bad country.

Books: Impossible. I've made a list of my favorite authors though. I need to update, though... it's looking kinda stale.

TV shows/Movies: Most definitely South Park, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, and... well, I think you get the picture.

Instrument: My brain. I grew up poor and since I never expressed an interest in anything but self analysis and indulging my esoteric imagination, I never cared about learning. But on occasion, I've found that I can string together several simultaneous types of instruments in virtual "tracks" and thereby mentally compose orchestras, so I've added learning music to my list of needs so I can get some of that on paper before I croak.

Do you like sports? If you consider DDR a sport, then yes. Otherwise, there's no logical reason I would. Never have, and I likely never will.

Family: Puts the fun in disfunctional. I try to forget most of them exist, save two of my uncles and my mother. Not married... yet, but it ain't out of the question.

Clothing: Yes, thank you. ;)

How did you find this website? The great and almighty Google.

Job: Currently I'm a Database Administrator. Though if my book sells well, that'll be my new vocation of choice.

Plans for the future? I've got a serious heart condition, and I've found living for the future is a bad idea. But I walk the path of life like anyone else, and I sometimes take a branch that looks more fun than another. So, I think I want to write for a while, and see how that goes.

Any comments? I've known since probably around 2000, maybe early 2001, that there's actually a name for my weird brain structure, and I wish I knew earlier. I could have read the research, concentrated on coping and adaptation techniques, and so on. Instead, I just felt out of place and started getting depressed. It's like having to use your brain to mentally control your legs while walking... it's slow and irritating, looks humorous to the uninitiated, and seems more a chore than is necessary. Most people under that scenario would just give up on walking entirely. It's a daily struggle, but I overcame death, so I won't let this stop me either.

What is your first name? Candice

Age: 25

Location: Chicago, IL

Hobbies and Interests: Web design (XHTML and CSS). I could spend weeks writing code without a break... Atheism. Religion / paranormal / supernatural / UFOs / etc. etc. and the debunking thereof. Science, logic, reason. Ancient history, especially Roman, but in general also.

Why are you here? Now that I know that there are other people out there who are like me, I guess I want to get to know some of them! I've been so misunderstood all of my life, and at the same time, I've had so much trouble understanding "normal" people. It's nice to be somewhat unique, but not to the point where you're completely alone in the world, you know!?

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): For the most part, I'm self diagnosed, because the thought of talking to anyone in person about any of this kind of freaks me out times a billion. But AS is something I've read a lot about in the last year or so, and I just identify so very much with almost every description I find. I've been diagnosed with depression and social anxiety by a couple of physicians, and they're probably right, even though I don't really trust them a terrible lot on such matters... I don't know if any kind of professional diagnosis is useful to me, anyway. I know myself very well, I know how my brain functions, and I'm happy with the way I'm living my life. I'm not looking to change, and definitely not looking to "get better", since I don't think there's anything "wrong" with me in the first place. Maybe I'm differently, but that's alright, right? I don't need to pay someone to fix me.

Favorite subjects: Science. I loved science classes. Biology, chemisty, and physics, all included. I used to have so much FUN writing essays for those classes -- I'm such a loon.

Year/Grade: I'm halfway through a commerce degree... it's only taken me, what, six years now?

Favorite music: Anything complex and electronic.

Books: Douglas Adams & P.G. Wodehouse. Both are very imaginative and humourous in their writing, and yet so PRECISE with their language. I've read all of their novels repeatedly, and have a lot of it memorized. Other than that, lots of science writing, science fiction, and lately, books by those "new atheists". I'm usually in the middle of about 11 books at any point in time...

TV shows/Movies: The X-Files, Star Trek and other Star Trek, whatever sci-fi happens to be on.

Instrument: I played the flute in high school, and picked it up very naturally (I took private lessons, never EVER practiced, and still kept up, and even learned more quickly than average). I've been trying to get back into it lately.

Do you like sports? I'm much too uncoordinated for most of that kind of thing. I used to be very good at track and field events -- mainly 100m, high jump, and running/standing long jump. Probably because I'm so tall and skinny. I used to play soccer, and loved it, though admittedly I was never the best player.

Family: Um, check!? Heh. My dad's side of the family and my three siblings all share traits similar to mine to varying degrees...

Clothing: I wear a lot of black...

How did you find this website? You know, I really don't even remember. I've been lurking for a little while now.

Job: I'm looking for a job at the moment, and have been for a loooong time. It's tough for me because I absolutely DREAD talking on the phone and going to interviews, to the point where I often have panic attacks. I can do the work, I just can't get hired, because I come off so awkwardly or avoid the entire situation :(

Plans for the future? Finish my degree at some point. But, I dunno. I'm not really one for planning. I don't know what I'm likely to do tomorrow, let alone anytime beyond that.
