I've never been officially diagnosed (nor do I make any plans to be), but after seeing descriptions of Asperger's I felt like they could have been descibing me, personally. I finally broke down and took one of the online tests.

Version 5
Thank you for filling out this questionnaire.

Your Aspie score: 157 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 5 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

Your dyslexia / dyscalculia score: 138 of 200
You likely have dyslexia and/or dyscalculia

Your nonverbal IQ-test score: 16 of 18

I don't think I have dyslexia - I have no trouble reading and my trouble with writing is usually from typo's and from my getting a bit "lost in the language". I'm guessing that my dyslexia/dyscalculia score comes mostly from numbers - I was always terrible in math, algebra, and physics (the only way I managed to keep from completely failing algebra in high school was to completely re-write the chapters of the text book the final exam would cover, and then study my own version - I got the highest math-related test scores of my entire life as a result.)

I expected to show up at least somewhat Aspie, but my neurotypical score of 5/200 is an eye-opener for me, and speaks volumes. I never expected to score particularly highly as NT... but, a mere 5/200??? (No wonder everyone has always thought I was strange, and all my teachers always said I was "anti-social", "needed to come out of his shell", "constantly in his own little world", and "never got along well with others"!)

I just took the test yesterday and with similiar results ,except 63/200 on NT score and only 10/18 on the mensa test...you got 16/18....thats awesome.....I dont see how they could even measure number dyslexia or verbal....what test was that....i dont rember any math or verbal skills questions? Not sure where they come up with thatDX...(they said I was also, but how ....?)

anyway, I just wanted to say...welcome....I have a compulsion to be officially DXed....but I'm not sure why.I've been DXed with less flatering things then Aspies....guess thats not a label I would mind having.....guess I would rather explain my odditys as brain wiring then mental illness, which seems to be the alternative according to the "Professionals" I also like the feeling that I am not alone in my quirkinesses....even though we are each very individual....it feels good to me to read or chat with others who share some of the same experiences.....I dont mind being unique but also like to feel I fit in somewhere...does that make sense?

Here's the URL again:

http://www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php

A typical question that probably determined my dyslexia/dyscalculia score would be "Do you have trouble remembering phone numbers?" (Oh, yes, you bet I do! And birth dates... it took me years to remember my own birth date, and I still have great difficulty with most holidays and my immediate family's birth dates. "You forgot my birthday? You never think of anyone but yourself!")

And a question about whether I read slowly, which I do - I read each and every word of anything I'm interested in. I once saw and advertisement for the "wonderful miracle of speed-reading", which involved "skimming", or skipping over most of the text to absorb only a few key words... I was horrified at the thought!

And, at this point, I see no useful purpose that subjecting myself to an official diagnosis can serve in my case, especially if the jerk ends up wanting to put me on medications or something. Having a doctor tell me "Gosh, you've got Asperger's, which basically means you're weird and have trouble communicating on the save wavelength that 'NORMAL' people like I do"... well, gee, tell me something I don't know, doc! "OK, well, how's this: if you weren't so lazy, I'd be able to fix you, but you're not trying hard enough. So, here, take some dope, pay my bills, get out of my office, and leave me alone, instead!" I'll save my money and my health and avoid the doctors, thank you.

I already had a good idea something was different about me, I now know it's got a name, and, more importantly, I know I'm not alone. And possibly even more valuable for me is a dawning understanding that this isn't schizophrenia or something, and may not even be a disease/disorder/brain damage/etc. - which is something that no doctor is ever likely to agree to or improve my understanding of!

Yeah I know what you mean.... Can't trust Docs sometimes.... But if you're sure you have AS, thats good, you should find some services. The thing is, it might be important to be officially diagnosed so you can get some compensation from the government and such.

I have pretty interesting results from that quiz. Apparantely I am Aspie, but plenty NT in me as well? So am I some sort of hybrid creature?! lol. No I kid..... But look:

Your Aspie score: 108 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 88 of 200
You are more Aspie than neurotypical

I didn't see any more results than that. Wheres the rest?

Yeah. This is pretty cool. No wonder some people think I'm a pretty balanced individual. Although if you ask me, my emotional state of mind is anything but balanced!

A few days ago I found a Aspie websight and out of bordom I clicked on.
I could not belive what I was reading it was if someone was writing about my life. I had never before had such a sense of these people are the same as i am.
Well i had to take the various test to see if there was more to this than just my "feelings".
On the AQ I scored a 31 on the EQ I scored a 7 and on the SQ I scored a 46.
The I found this site and took the test here were my results:Aspie score=127 out of 200
NT score 65of 200 "you are likely an Aspie"

I am relieved I have and explination for myself but I'm not sure if I want anyone else to Know

"where's the rest?" I'm not sure, I just cut-and-pasted everything they gave me at the end of the test into that quote, pretty much as-is (it all appeared on one page in that order), except that I added a link to the quiz to the top of everything.

Maybe it has something to do with exactly what I checked at the beginning of the test, when they asked whether I was diagnosed or just suspected I had any of the conditions?

Or maybe it's web-browser related? (I use mostly Netscape Communicator and occassionally Internet Explorer, because sometimes one doesn't work right with various javascript- and perlscript- type stuff that the other handles with no problems, but I don't remember which one I used for that quiz!)

Or perhaps the fact that it was version 5 of the quiz might be significant? (Perhaps there is a different version that doesn't give the same information?)

Aside from that, I can't guess! :?

Your Aspie score: 147 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 61 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

I was surprised by some of the questions, there have always been things about my behaviour that I never thought would be explained by the condition. I just always thought I was "different" and didn't realize until about a year ago that there was a condition that described these characteristics. When I was in kindergarten (in 1986) my teacher wanted me tested for Autism, but my parents wouldn't allow it because they just figured I was shy. I also remember as a child being very very jumpy whenever someone went to touch me. I'm still like that, it's just nice to know that there is a reason for all this.

I haven't been officially diagnosed, but that's a matter of not having the money to be tested for it, in the meantime, it's comforting to know that there is quite likely an explanation for all these things that made me feel so different...

Oh, I made it.

Why do they want to know hair- and eye color? And what do you say when your eyes are two different colors? Man, did I have problems.

I don't remember those questions, that's interesting: must be new to version 6.

I take it there's a theory that Asperger's is genetic, and more likely to appear in certain ethnic groups than others, hence the questions about eye and hair colour? I haven't tried version 6 yet, but perhaps that's a poll that is collecting data that might provide more insight into whether or not this theory is accurate?

I can't imagine a reason, otherwise.
