Hello. I guess you can add another to the list of those from Minnesota. I'm from the Southwest part.

I have a brother diagnosed with Autism/profound Mental Retardation, and another brother diagnosed with Asperger's. (moderate to Severe) I have not been officially diagnosed yet. I was in the process of it when one of my brothers started having problems, so I stopped to help him get his diagnosis. I have 2 other brothers and a sister that all show signs of AS and so does my mom. I have a 2 year old son that is starting to show signs of AS.

I deal with a lot of things with my AS but the one that's frustrated me the most is the noise sensitivity. I've spent a good part of the last 15 years trying to get an answer as to why I have it so severe (to the point of punching walls and destroying phones). No Dr. could ever explain it, at least until recently. I was diagnosed with MS 4 years ago, so most of the Dr.s blame it on that, but my neuro says it's not common with MS.

Well, I just wanted to take the time to say Hello and let everyone I was here.

Welcome Casey....I live near MPLS....I was just curious boyfriend has MS and I think he has a lot of aspie traits(which he denies),did your neurologist blame any other "traits" on your MS?my boyfriend has major "interests" which he claims is OCD...but they are not compulsions, like door checking.he has a lot of memorie(short term)problems, cant see something even if it is right in front of his face,he says he is very social but has only one friend that he calls once a month(if he wants to show him a guitar he recently bought). All other socializing is on-line.
I can barely touch him without him flinching and saying it hurts but he likes firm hugs(I thought for awhile he might have Fybramyalgia because he is so sensitive....I was just wondering if your DR has considered which might be MS and which AS?

Hello, I live in Avoca MN, which is by Worthington and Windom if any recognizes those names. Avoca is a small town of about 150 people.

Krex, The sensitive skin could be MS. Sometimes if a drop of cold water lands on my lower right leg it feels like my leg is on fire. (But it's only the lower right leg and not anything else.)That might be what he's experiencing. My neuro says its pretty common with MS. I'm not sure about the interests you mentioned in your post. I also experience memory problems, which is because of my MS.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for your replies!

Actually, according to one of the newsweek articles from about 2 years ago, Minnesota ranked with California and Oregon as to the per capita of persons with ASDs in the state. MN is the tech center of the upper midwest (especially the Twin Cities but even MS has a tech lab in the Fargo-Moorhead area and IBM has a major facility in Rochester) so I think the problem is similar to that of Silicon Valley.

There are some differences though and one of the biggest difference is that the parents do not have as much control of the support systems/groups in MN as in other states so the adults have a better chance of being heard. MN also has that Midwest tendency to solve its own problems rather scream to others about them so I think you do not hear much about ASDs being a problem in MN in the national news as you may hear from other states.

Then again, all my hypothesis may be wrong and I am a stupid dumb #$$.
