Hello wrongplanet, my name is Lode and I’m a 16 years old guy from the Netherlands.

I have been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome on the 4th of September this year.

I am living in an open mental hospital since July (*Half the people reading this will now have prejudices against me, don’t!*), which was especially because I couldn’t and can’t even do the most simple things in life properly, like going to school, brushing my teeth, leaving my bed in the morning and having an unusual need for predictability (is that even a word?).

The majority of the people here in Holland have prejudices against the psychiatry section, which is ridiculous. I’m living somewhere else with the nursing to help me and I’m staying at home at the weekends, it’s as simple as that.

I also take medication (SSRI) because of my everyday motivation problem. Caffeine seems to boost my motivation a lot, too.

My hobbies are listening to music (everything, really), playing football and fitness for self-confidence. I can really recommend it.  I also seem to randomly click through wikipedia a lot, without a reason.

My brains seem to compensate my awful way of doing everyday tasks with average social skills and feeling for small talk. I have a couple of real-life friends and I can keep relations up pretty good for an aspie. Too bad my facial expressions and recognizing emotions and jokes are very poor, which can lead to very tiresome moments in a relationship.

I try to live my life as calm as possible to avoid stress. Maybe I can even go to school again in a couple of months :). I have been reading this forum for quite a while and finally got the courage to make an account and introduce myself.

I hope I can have a good time here and learn a lot more about Asperger’s and maybe teach some others about it, too.

Thanks for reading (oh and please point out some spelling errors, since I'm not that good in English and always want to improve it).

Welcome Lode.

As to spelling mistakes, I don't think you made any.

There was "My hobby’s are...", where you have constructed the possessive of "hobby", rather than the plural... so it should read "My hobbies are...". Also, I guess a space went missed in "alot". Other than that, your command of English is as good as, if not better than, most native speakers'.

(Oooo.. a sneaky apostrophe - as the context above implies a comparison of "your command of English", versus "most native speakers' command of English", where "speaker" is pluralised with an appended "s", and then that is made made possessive with the final "'".)

Heh :D Thanks.

I'm pretty obsessed with good grammar and spelling, as you can see. I guess it has more advantages than downsides.

Your English is probably better than mine and infinitely better than my Dutch.

Thanks, but I'm only celebrating christmas. Sinterklaas is commercialised bullcrap for little kids in my opinion. I hate it how Holland wants to be different in everything... Eating boterhammen with lunch instead of a decent meal, celebrating some stupid old man and 'zwarte pieten' who throw pepernoten at you. It's the most stupid thing I have every seen. :?

isn't xmas commercialized as well or is it only the case in the US where Santa Claus and Christmas are synonymous?

Yeah, christmas is commercialised as well, but at least you can have a nice, cosy dinner with relatives and friends. With sinterklaas it's ONLY about presents.

For a young man who has reached "the ripe old age" of sixteen, you certainly seem to have a lot going for you in the intelligence and perception departments. You have a very good command of the English language and extraordinary insight into your own situation. That is commendable. Welcome to Wrong Planet.

Welcome to WrongPlanet!Image

Your command of English is better than that of most American teenagers.

Thanks, but I don't like to compare myself to American teenagers, especially not as aspie.

Hi Lode,

welcome to WP :)

Lode wrote:

I am not going to have prejudices against you...infact, this place is pretty freindly and I doubt that anyone here would think differently of you because of your living situation.

Hey, I don't go to school either and I am 16, too. I wouldn't regard going to school as being "simple" at all.
Yes, predictability is a word.

I hope you enjoy posting here :)
