Hi

I'm trying to figure out if I have aspergers syndrome, so I thought I would come here to see if I can get some answers.

I've never met anybody with it, so wouldn't mind chating with people that have it.

So does this sound like it...

I don't like bright lights, sun glasses are heavenly.
When I touch frozen things I screw up my mouth.

I've always been a bit of an odd ball.
Do my own thing.
I'm social but have found that a struggle.
I get a bit stressed when I have to travel anywhere and have to phsik myself up to do things new.
I can't multitask, I have write things down on paper and do one thing at a time otherwise I'm all over the place.

I found out a few years a go that I was gluten intorelant which messsed me up a bit, I read there was a link between gluten and autism, so that is what got me thinking...

Just like to chat with some people that have aspergers syndrome..

Thanx

Obviously I can't tell you if you have Asperger's or not. But there are tests on the internet that should give you a pretty good indication, this for example: http://www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php it isn't completely sure ofcourse, the only way to be completely sure is to talk to a therapist.
I would recomend just browsing the different forums for a little while, if you have AS then you are bound to see some similarities between you and the others here.

Welcome to WP and I hope you find what you are looking for.

Hey Thanks

I've done a bit of web browsing, that is why I ended up here.

Anyway I took the test

Your neurodiversity (Aspie) score: 125 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 80 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie (neurodiverse)

Diagnostic prediction for Score Prediction
ADD/ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder) 146 You very likely will be able to receive the diagnosis
Social phobia 128 You very likely will be able to receive the diagnosis
Dyslexia 127 You very likely will be able to receive the diagnosis
Asperger/HFA/PDD 99 This isn't a primary diagnosis you should seek
Bipolar 91 This isn't a primary diagnosis you should seek
OCD 84 This isn't a primary diagnosis you should seek

Off-topic for a second here, that might be something to look at adjusting in the Aspie-Quiz.

If your total neurodiversity score is high, it tells you that you're likely to be an Aspie:
(hope you don't mind me quoting scores, MR_BOGAN)
Your neurodiversity (Aspie) score: 125 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 80 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie (neurodiverse)

... even though this score doesn't just reflect Asperger's behavior, but any of the neurodiversities it screens for.

But on the other hand, your actual PDD score doesn't reflect being an Aspie:
Asperger/HFA/PDD 99 This isn't a primary diagnosis you should seek

Maybe the test should be adjusted only to tell you that you're "likely to be an Aspie" if that particular score is high? Otherwise it might result in people with other issues (like ADHD or social phobia) being misled.

[Please note: I am not criticizing - just asking.]

It's hard to find places to get diagnosed as an adult. You didn't post your location, but the TEACCH center in Chapel Hill, NC has a guy named Gary Mesibov that does adult diagnosis's, and people come from all over the US to get diagnosed.

Hi everyone.

I reply to Jeyrandan. Hey know worries about criticizing I don't care. Trying to figure myself out.

I'm very certain I'm not ADHD.

I'm a social person, but do find it hard to keep up with people, I think I think more deeply about things than most, so being social can be hard work.

I'm good at figuring out people to, so I know what to say to people and can get on with anybody really(in a way I'm more social), though I feel a bit guilty because it's like I'm acting and mostly don't really care what other people are talking about. If there is anything slightly different about someone, like clothes anything, I start thinking deeply about it. If I notice something like a cup I'll start thinking about it. What I have read about Autism, was that this is a trait they have, getting fixated on things.

Being social I just like socializing, even though my mind is always else where.

I prefer small groups of people rather than large groups of people. So maybe I do have a social phobia. But I'd doubt it will be much worse than the average person.

I live in New Zealand which isn't the USA.

How does a therapist diagnose you??

Welcome Mr Bogan,

You show aspie tendencies and score well in the quiz.

It's up to you whether you follow a diagnosis or not. You're welcome here anyway - not everyone here is aspie.

Along the way, you might discover more about yourself by talking to others anyway.

I used to not ever quite fitting in.

I've done a bit of self discovery and think I have learned and answered heaps of questions about myself from this site.

Anyway I have diagnosed myself as

Ba baaaa bab abab drum roll

Hybred

I'm both NT and Aspie

I understand both worlds, so I may be of a bit of use here. I might be of vaule to people here.

Sorry not that easy, you can not be both your on the autism spectrum or not..

This link may help, explains really well:
The National Autistic Society - What is Asperger syndrome?
http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=212

With a condition like Aspergers it is exceptionally hard because no 2 people are the same. We may have some of the same traits, but we are all individuals in our selves, different personalities, different circumstances, different associated conditions and each effected differently. So generalizing about people with Aspergers is difficult, as if you know one person on the autism spectrum disorder you just know one.

Well I'm in autism spectrum. So Aspie then.

I'm great at understanding and reading people, but I may have become this way from studying and analysing people(this has sort of messed with my head a bit). I can fully relate with people's problems on this site, but I am social and do connect with people, but yeah I do feel like I'm acting a bit, but also I'm genuine when I'm social and it does come naturally to me, not completely though. mmmmmeh see what I mean I think I'm both!! !

I don't know I'm a problem solver, maybe I have worked out all my problems best I can.

What do you think I am?
