Anyone always mispronounce certain words? My family never corrected me when I started pronounicng pretzel "prentzel". And I pronounce the word pants oddly sometimes too.

I often mispronounce words that I have read but never heard, otherwise I enunciate clearly.

I can't pronounce a lot of stuff because I learned it by reading. An example that comes to mind is my talking to a friend about a coop dee tatt. I didn't even know what a coup d'etat was when she told me I'd done this but I'd been taking a history class at the time so maybe I forgot. Sounds like something I'd do.

I'm dreadful, same as Serissa - I've learnt a lot of words from reading.

Most embarassing moment probably was when I learnt about the PI function in Maths and pronouced it Pee.Eye. to a friend. He thought that most amusing.

Also, the year 2000 was very annoying for me because I can't pronouce Millennium. I say it like Me-lenny-num. :)
Conversations about Robbie Williams albums or Star Wars spaceships are funny (for others) for the same reason!

You are looking at a guy who has consistently failed to produce the words "Canada, use, so, church, etc"

As a kid I said 'punkin' instead of pumpkin, and when mum corrected me I was convinced she had it wrong! I also do the reading thing sometimes, saying Hermyowny (Hermione), ockZIMaron (oxymoron... I didn't believe us stupid enough to have 'moron' in a word!), Jooun (Juan: meant all the jokes about 'seen Juan, you seem Amal' went over my head!), and of course, the word I had the most trouble with was profiterole. I wanted to say profriterole for some reason! I remember it now because it has 'profit' in it, but it still takes me a minute to figure it out before saying it, and it often comes out wrong!

Out of interest, did anyone here say 'aks' instead of ask, 'ickspeshully' instead of especially, or any other word like those? And did anyone used to (gah bad grammar!! !) finish sentances with 'but'? I.e. 'You could stay for dinner', 'I want to go home, but'.

I only had these issues when I was little. Like "cooperate" was Cooper-ate, and "negotiate: was neg-o-gate.

I noticed alot of people say "pacific" instead of "specific", it does annoy me a wee bit.

When I'm not nervous I'm actually pretty good at avoiding pronunciation pitfalls, at least with common words.

It took me AGES to figure out how the heck to pronounce Hermione!

Cinnamon. I say cinamum. I thought Hermione was Hermy One but I found out how to say it from the movies.

I don't really remember any words that I've mispronounced but before I didn't know if "stupider" was really a word.

I don't think there are any words I mispronounce now, but there were some when I was little. I couldn't say onion properly. I used to say 'ung-yun' instead of 'un-yun'. I also used to say 'sukamarket' instead of 'supermarket'.

Oh, I know! Thank goodness for that part of Goblet of Fire where Hermione tries to teach Viktor Krum how to say her name properly (instead of 'Herm-own-ninny')!

I dont know if its asperger related or not. I used to pernounce a lot of words wrong when i was younger (untill about 6) and i couldent even tell the difference when people pointed it out. I ended up going to a speach coach and she got me speaking properly somehow. I used to say things like...
"Boat" - "Bot"
"Juice" - "oose"
"House" - "Hoss"
