Quote:
Her prescription has refills, and is paid for with her military-dependent medical benefits - the pharmacy up here just doesn't want to fax the info needed to the pharmacy down there, as she can't come into the pharmacy up here and sign a paper in their presence, and they apparently fear litigation for potential HIPAA violations more than litigation stemming from a refusal to refill a prescription.

Deacon, maybe you or she can call the doctor who prescribed her meds, explain what the situation is and he can call the pharmacy where she is at and phone in a script for just the amount she needs until she gets home. I don't understand what kind of a goofy pharmacy you are dealing with. We use CVS and I can go in there and pick up refills for my husband without him being present. If you could do that you could fed ex her medication to her.

I had to go out and pick up a few groceries while 'Gana's in school, and came home to a voicemail telling me not to worry, we don't need to get her out right this second. I'll talk to her later, find out what the scoop is - but damn, I'm glad to have people like you who'll come through in a pinch, and not give us any talk about how we're living our lives!

Now to think about how to explain this to my mother, and make sure she doesn't tell ol' Blabbermouth - I kind of outed us in an email asking for her advice...

Being without psychiatric medication CAN cause seizures leading to death.Stress can increase problems with blood suger and lead to it being even lower or higher then normal...this can also cause perminant damage.I can not believe a pharmacy would not be worried about the moral(or legal)problems such an out come would have for her(or them)...I can't list the number of times my pharmacy has "floated" me a week of meds because the DRs perscription hadnt come in(What do you mean they went on vacation with out calling it in!! !!)

I would agree that the best thing to do would be to contact her DR(s) and explain the situaation(I would write it out if possible),if the DR isnt avaiable try and talk to the DRs personal nurse(I find them generally more understanding and better to follow through then the DRs)You shouldn't need to remind them of the possible side effects of not having her meds but you should mention that she has been crying uncontrolably and talking about suicidal plans because of recent stress(fathers illness, change in environment)stress is accumulative....we hold our breath as long as we can and then we break.

Dr's have a way of getting people to do things that they wont do for us "peons".I wish you luck.

Deacon
The Red Cross could pull off minor miracles when it came to military connected emergency's. Used to be anyway. And they were johnny-on-the-spot fast. I have no doubt they have a 24 hour number someplace. Might be worth a shot.

It would seem to me that since it's (the meds) paid for by the military, some place, the system should have an advocate. I do, but then I'm in the VA system too, so I dunno for sure. I'd contact or have someone with the more proper links contact a VA hospital, they can at least let you know if she might have such a thing in place. Don't be afraid to raise a little hell, sometimes you have to get em to listen, although lately they're very sensitive to problems and about time.

A f*****g phone call from Iraq would wake up a congressman fast too. We did that too, when needed and you'd be f*****g amazed at what doors those folks can open. It's earned, use it.

Helen, this note is, *AHEM*, unfashionably late, but...
...loved the video you made of your boys! :D Good job! :bounce:

Here's a nicely strange (ok, just plain weird) video of the Finnish rock band Leningrad Cowboys (with the Soviet Red Army Choir) singing Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1974 hit Sweet Home Alabama: 8O

( ...love the female backup dancers!! ! :D Remind me of the B52's...)

I needed some light relief after following Nan's "discussion" with someone else in the getting to know you forum. Thanks Chuck.

Wow, dude's got some serious issues. I don't know what he thinks you were talking about...

I also think that's a new record. Got his own thread locked in only a week!

I hope the poor kid gets proper support from someone - it's readily apparent that her parents are only willing to deal with this as a discipline problem, not as either a neurological or psychological problem. (I include the latter because it's possible that she's not autistic - just paranoid schizophrenic with a few comorbids, which is treatable with medication and talk therapy. Pity they're not ready to offer either one.)

Hey Sedaka! Always good to see you! :D
As I told you, if I'd have had a daughter, it would have been you or someone who is very much you, so it doesn't surprise me that your dad and I both listen to Leningrad Cowboys. ( 8O  ).
Actually, I have a crazy brother and sister who love to send me funny emails, and my brother sent me this in an email last week - I didn't have time to open it until today. (Your dad and my brother must be on the same email circuit). (Or maybe my brother is your dad and you are my niece? 8O ) Coincidences? Circumstantial evidence leading to false conclusions? I think not!! ! ...welcome to the family!! ! :D (...hmmmmmm.....guess I'd better investigate who else I might be related to here...)
