Yes I go to India a lot. Both are diffrent, but both are not drastically diffrent. Maybe its beacause I'm female? In India my parents tend to be more judgemental but Indians themselfs are more accepting and for me in India I can make freinds eaiser. In the United States its very hard for me to make freinds (maybe it is also a language barrier?). But also, I'm a very very shy aspie and I don't talk very much. But i think services in the United States for aspergers are a lot better than in India. Have you ever been to the United States? Which part of India are you from?

I'm from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. I've never even been to Nepal, forget US. Can't afford it :)

I have to agree with you when you say that Indians are more accepting. They are more social and friendly, but that can also be at times a problem. Because they want you to be one of them, they are less inclined to accept your differences. Western people believe more in individuality, but they might stay away from you thinking you're a freak or something (that's what I've heard).

I'll have to agree with that... Indians are more accepting of eccentricity... Happy Ganesh Chathurthi!

Hi, Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all!

pree10shun, I think you didn't read it carefully... Indians are more accepting, but not of eccentricity, they want you to conform. Western people believe more in individuality, but they are less accommodating. I don't know if this will make sense to anyone.

I'm also obsessed with languages but slightly differently. I'm interested in origin and changes of languages and scripts. I read a little bit about it on the net, and then forget about it entirely. After some time I start again. I guess I'm not interested in it enough :)

'Know' as in able to write, right? Only the three languages I know - english, hindi and gujarati. So I'm only able to read and write roman, devanagari and gujarati scripts. I do keep reading about different scripts every now and then, but I haven't learn't any. I guess one learns the language and script together.
I don't see myself learning a new language any time soon :)

I'm Liza Roy Chowdhury.
I'm from NYC, but my parents are from Calcutta, India.
Well, I grew up very Indian, so yeah, I guess I consider myself more Indianized than westernized.

Hi Liza. Welcome to the thread ! !
From your name I guessed you would be a girl, but your profile says male. Just to clarify :)

So, what are the issues that you struggle most with? Any tips for us on surviving in the neurotypical world?

I created this account quickly, so I didn't have time to go and change the gender preference. Thanks for point it out though!
