KITTTTTTEEEEEEHHHHHHHH
hale_bopp, you are incredibly cute in this video!
I love cats. Don't take the following comments as bashing dogs. I am expressing my honest opinions of why I prefer cats to dogs. Besides the purring and the soft fur, I also like that cats are small enough so when they climb on me when I am sitting or lying down it isn't as much weight as when dogs climb onto me. Also being smaller, when they lick themselves or otherwise make noise it isn't as loud as when dogs make such noises. Also, cats don't bark (but they can be annoying in mating season). All my cats are fixed and are indoor cats so we don't have that problem much. Only one of the two males yowls sometimes when that's going on outside. Cat poop is easier to clean from a litter box than scooping bigger dog poop from a yard.
I know that while cat lovers admire the way kitties keep themselves clean, others see the cat as coating its fur with cat spit. When I think of it that way, it grosses me out. But again, when a kitty licks my hand or foot with its little raspy tongue it doesn't gross me out nearly as much as when a dog licks me with its humongous tongue, and dogs are quicker to lick and lick longer too. Also, dogs are quick to try licking me on the face or even on the mouth if I'm not quick enough to discourage them. I've heard this is the way puppies lick parent dogs to try to get them to throw up food for the puppies to eat. Yuck.
I once heard a guru say something to the effect that he had encountered many enlightened beings, and most of them were cats. For photographs, stories and even some cat music videos (original music by The Bicycling Guitarist) check out the
Cats section of my web site.
[edit added several hours later, more cat stuff]:
I also love how kitties play, the way they can entertain themselves by tossing a small item up in the air and catching it, chasing it across the floor, etc. It's more fun when another cat shows interest and gets involved. Sometimes the kitties play tag with each other. The politics between our four cats is interesting. Each cat has its own personality and relationships to the other cats, dogs and people. It is fun to watch them interact with each other, and observe how their relationships change over time. Their basic personalities haven't changed, but their social relationships do.
The way cats can leap amazes me too. I love flying kitties. When our cats feel playful and comfortable sometimes they do what my daughter and I call "kitty rolls" on the ground. Their vocalizations are fun too. Each of our cats has a unique sound. None of them are especially talkative, but they sometimes answer me if I talk or meow back at them. It is annoying sometimes that they don't like closed doors and will sometimes scratch at it until it is opened. Someone I knew a few years ago once remarked if you have cats you never have to go to the bathroom alone. That can be annoying sometimes, but sweet too when they meow at you and purr.
Finally, let me share
The Magick Show, a theme song I wrote for our little black kitty. I wrote the guitar parts and sing. My friend Dana does the voice of the cat. I've posted this song before in other threads a few months back, but like it so I'm doing it again.
