And our weekly food bill for three, though the papa usually isn't there half the time, only comes to about 80€ ) :?

You're preparing for a party, right? :) :D :?:

unless you are buying miso as the second listing, I would like to talk to your son about what 'fermented' means!

Merle

The first is Soy sauce and the "extracted juice" soy milk, which I believe is made by cooking the beans down to a paste. I see Mom prescribed research in his future.

And yes, Nan, he is a good cook. He is also an Aspie with a perseveration that involves Japan which means that, left to his choice, we would be eating a lot of sushi and tempura.

ah so, miso drippings are 'soy sauce!' in the strict sense of the word. Exposing  my old communial roots having made tofu and miso and tempeh! Hey, your son would love making tempeh ! Especially after you make tofu from whole beans ground up you can use the pulp for the tempeh base (and you sprinkle mushrooms spoors over it and 'bake' it in a box of cookie sheets with an electric light bulb in it! He will love it in the winter! it smells so wonderful!).

Merle

I think he would love making that. I know he's mentioned Tempeh and miso when he talks to me about the Japanese restaurants he and his friends frequent. There are a few sauces that he's made himself and I must admit I found the smell of some them to horrid and sinus clearing. The food smells good, the sauces, not so much.

Apart from that fishy smell, the cafe has better vibes. Thank you, Laurie.

In our country, described by Merle as civilised, our supply teachers are paid well.

By basic I'm hoping you don't mean "simple or crude" (Is it apparent that I was raised around and am now raising boys, boys, and more boys? My lil' angel girl wanted a Whoopie cushion from the dollar store last week. I'm embarrassed to admit that I bought her 2. And laughed as she went around annoying her brothers with them.)

I would have to say, after reading about the autism support you have there, your country is far ahead of the Canada and the Stated in many ways. Our teachers are paid a ridiculous, low salary for the crap they have to put up from some parents and their little "angels". Granted some of them deserve the low wage but most are doing the best they can.

I hope the better vibes last for at least a few days. I'm gathering an arsenal of happiness and bad jokes, just in case. :D

Hey Merle! As I type this, there's a pot full of vegies and shortribs stewing away in the oven. We tend to go by the "more is better" theory when it comes to meal planning, so we somehow ended up buying, and cooking, something like 5 kilos of ribs instead of 5 pounds.

There will be leftovers.

Will the leftovers last a few months?? :D

oh, my! we call it Syrah in The States, but it is just the ticket for the beefy goodness that is percolating in your oven! I always use the cheaper wines for cooking because although it does add flavor, it is mostly to tenderize the meat, (along with the tomato paste!)

It makes me feel real cozy with your family, Linda to know you are smelling and soon to enjoy a little something I love too! That is why I started cooking back in the day, when I realized I couldn't f**k everyone to let them know I loved them, so I started cooking to reach more people. (you don't have to share that with hubby, though, might put him off the Short Ribs!)

and as for making a BIG BATCH, that is wonderful! It is labor intensive and if you have enough time to make it, it should be enough to make it worth your time.

Bon Appitite !

Merle

Yes, the number of servings, it works out to about AUD$0.60's worth of wine in each one.

I overcooked it slightly. Both the meat and vegies lost their structural integrity, and the result was a thick stew with a few recognisable bits floating in it, and all the bones at the bottom. Never mind, it will make excellent topping for boiled rice. And Gawd-DAY-Um, does it taste nice or whut!

Merle, thank you and a big hug.

And yeah, wouldn't it be cool if all of you could come for dinner. Maybe not quite as much fun as Smelena's refrigerator-box campout and marshmallow roast, but close.

My pleasure! I am so glad you like it's beefy goodness. I would love to co-pilot next time, Linda. Tell me if you ever need any fine tuning on any of my recipes. I have my trusty copy of "The Way to Cook" by Julia Child and I follow it closely in how to actually do the stewing, the carmelization, preserving the integrity of the vegetables, etc.

You know . . . last New Year's Day I was on the internet on a webcam just hanging out with Robyn and The Sheik of Geek, Smelena, ubbyubbyubby, and forgive me the other names but they were all there, I was part of it. .

You know. . we could DO that, get a time that works for us all and just 'videocast' during that hour or so and HAVE DINNER TOGETHER! We can eat what the hell we want, hang out with each other in the best way we know how : ONLINE:

****************
UPDATE: WE COULD PLAN THAT AS A PARTY FOR OUr 1,000 PAGE!! !
****************

which still would not be as awesome as sitting in Smelena's back yard roasting marshmallows in front of my very own refrigerator box . . .

Merle

I'm up for it! Sounds like a great idea, Merle. And soon we will be able to spend time together as holograms.

i thought only two people at a time could be on a webcam via skype - that is, one receiver, one sender station. there can be tons on the audio, and on the chat board, but one cam station can only see one other cam station at a time, right? or no?

Grrrrrrr..... I finally listened to what my Dr's been telling me for years...... I got a cane to see if he was right when he says it will actually help when the Crohn's colitis related arthritis and tendonitis in my legs acts up. I really hate to admit that he IS right. So, looks like I have a new wooden friend. Maybe I'll name it.

Right, plenty of Audio, only two webcams and lots of typing, typing, typing! sounds like us, alright!
