Well it looks to me, now that i've gone back and read, that I was reacting to the team from hell last year. I can tell you what happened. They had a meeting before I got there, and they were angry. Before I said anything the team looked at me as though they'd jump at me and kill me. All they had to do was what they agreed, to allow me to adapt Emily's assignments, if they weren't going to. Instead they talked about how I'm always doing it! The aide who had been so negative aslo had friends on the team, and apparently they sided with her that my child was a brat.
What the team write for the following years team was worse. It basically denied that she had any issue at all other than what other obnoxious teens her age go through. It was said in politically correct wording.
Thankfully this years team was much more receptive. We had a better year overall. Emily wrote a letter herself, explaining what she needed from them, and what they needed to allow herself to do. She explained that though it looks like she is more social, they are all tricks she has learned, and she has simply become good at the tricks. She advoicated for herself beautifully with a little help from me. The team at first looked skeptical but when they heard her words, they seemed to get that last years team missed some important details. All we needed was that doubt to open communication.
Next month we move into High School territory. More changes, new teachers, etc etc. But, Emily is using her voice more and her same aides, including Ms. Negativity will be with her. ok to be fair, Ms. Negativity has gotten a little better.
Aside from all that something happened elsewhere on the board that concerned me about Em's safety here. Em was unaware as she had lost interest. I've got alot more posts to read before my "old" memory is jogged.
Let's see what else has gone on. My husband took a new job as it looked like the job he'd had for 3 years was about to fall apart. His company was dying. Had a really great job for a year, but they kinda screwed him with poor equipment, not enough training, too little work. They fired him in Feb. I wrote to his boss detailing all that I knew had happened, long story short, the boss rehired him, sent a sales person to babysit him on every job after promising more support, training, etc. Fired again in May.
He's just now going to start training for another job, and my son will be too as a first job. We have a month to go before training is over and we know for sure this will be the job. It's been stressful.
Emily is wonderful. And before i say more, please read the blog in my profile I guess. I just redesigned my website as well: http://home.comcast.net/~somebunni/ if you'd like to see. There is an ASperger's page in the topic challenges.
I'm kinda just making sure every bill that can be paid is gettign paid, trying to keep it all organized, keep to what Emily needs, trying to help my son find his first job. Alot is going on. I just came across a link from another site to wrong planet, and decided to swing back on in and say hello, see how it was all going for everyone.
I have alot of reading to catch up, and it seems we've been displaced a while ago. I'm impatient and just want to know by osmosis somehow everything I missed!
Guess I need to spend some time reading
