What is your first name?
(CONFIDENTIAL)

Age:

16

Location:
Sydney, Australia

Hobbies and Interests:
All sciences, especially physics, eating ( :D ), Music (listening and playing) and learning new things

Why are you here?
Out of desperation to find people who understand and are similar to me

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):

My doctor originally suspected bipolar disorder and sent me to a counselor (psychologist) , but I could not handle it. I just didn't go. I felt better off without a diagnosis than I would have after going to several sessions. I am pretty sure I have aspergers though. I don't need a doctor to tell me that. The only real difference is that I can be a chronic liar, and because of my bipolar I can have massive "highs", where I am just manic and crazy. Usually it is "lows" though

Favorite subjects:

Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Music

Year/Grade:

year 11 in australia

Favorite music:

Metal and classical (odd combination, I know)

Books:
I only read non fiction, usually science, cosmology, philosophy etc...
AND... I also loved the Harry Potter series :D

TV shows/Movies:
I don't like TV that much. The occasional art house film is entertaining though, I also enjoy comedy, horror, sci-fi and documentaries

Instrument:

I love them all. I am i bit bias towards guitar because it is my favourite to play, but I also like violins---/// scrap that, all of them

Do you like sports?

I like playing, but not so much watching. I love soccer (even to watch) and most non-team sports (my faves being karate, archery, chess (if thats considered a sport) and yoga)

Family:
yep

Clothing:
Jeans and a t-shirt - summer shorts and a t-shirt (or singlet), matched with thongs (aka flip flops to you Americans)

How did you find this website?
not exactly sure...

Job:

the worst job possibly imaginable to aspies- I work in a massive supermarket that is always crowded and loud with bright white lights. I work at the cash registers so I also have to greet every customer and not react to anything bad they may say. Then I have to touch all of their food and pack it into a bag whilst maintaining conversation. I pity those who are unfortunate to have the same job as me.

Plans for the future?

Nope. My main goal in life is to figure out the meaning of life. Other that that I want to graduate uni top of my class in an A science course and learn to fly.

Any comments?
nope

And I can say George in the danish way, but it doesn't make it correct :D

What is your first name?
Jen

Age:
32

Location:
East Coast, United States

Hobbies and Interests:
I like to cook, spend time with my four cats, flower and herb garden, watching the birds from my window at the feeders, and sometimes I make crafts or write.

Reading, spending time with my family, forensics, deep space, all science and biology (especially related to animals), being outdoors where it is quiet, and lately sleeping too much.

I am also fortunate to have an amazing partner that I really enjoy being around. He is not overwhelming to me (usually), supports me, and try's to understand and respect me and why something might make me uncomfortable. That is something I haven't experienced much of in my life. Relationships have always been very difficult for me.

Why are you here?
Because I would like to meet other people that struggle with not being "normal", and hopefully develop friendships while doing so. I only have one close friend outside of my family and partner. I think it is just hard for me to interact with a majority of people, and they do not understand me. I am not interested in the same things they are and I get annoyed and overwhelmed by interacting with them about things that I have no interest in.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
I suspected I had AS after reading an article about a young woman with AS in Psychology Today, and I recognized many similarities in how I function once I started researching AS and HFA.

I met with a psychologist last fall and had IQ, inkblot, and personality testing done. After determining that I did not have any personality disorders, my psychologist stated that I have HFA, depression, and GAD. My nephew has diagnosed AS, and I suspect my father, and possibly my brother, also have some sort of HFA.

Favorite subjects:
Science, Anatomy, and Math. I used to frequently perform random and complex math calculations in my head, especially when I was feeling anxious, but as I have got older I don't do it as much. I have always been fascinated by how things work and why people/animals/science do the things they do.

Year/Grade:
High School Graduate, Vocational School Graduate, and looking into a Associate's degree now. I enjoy learning and look forward to going back to school again.

Favorite music:
Tricky question and I am far too eclectic in tastes to answer that one easily. Have been wearing out the soundtrack to the movie "The Fountain" lately. Listen to a lot of classic rock, folk/indie, and lately mellow stuff.

Books:
I have a large personal library and a tendency to switch between books often before I finish one. I sometimes collect a large number of books on a subject and it ends up being a long time before I ever even look at them. I have literary ADD.! :P

TV shows/Movies:
Few favorites:
Movies - The Fountain, Braveheart, Magnolia, It's A Wonderful Life, 50 First Dates, Forrest Gump, and I watched Memento recently which was really good.
TV shows - Just about anything on the Science or Discovery Channel interests me, The Food Network, and shows about forensic science.

Instrument:
I have never really played a musical instrument. Wanted to learn piano growing up but I did not get to. I liked the tones and the feel of the keys.

Do you like sports?
No. I like watching martial arts sometimes.

Family:
Yes, I belong to one. I do not have any children, just cats.

Clothing:
I am sensitive to textures and sensory experiences so I tend to like my relaxing clothes better than anything as they are soft and I don't notice that I am wearing them. Some fabrics and textures distract me or are just uncomfortable so I am picky about how the clothes feel that I wear.

How did you find this website?
Researching AS and HFA on Google.

Job:
I am an office manager for a air medical transport company. I like the organizational aspects to my job but hate answering the phone. I do not like interacting with a lot of people though, especially sales people. :x

Plans for the future?
I would like to get a degree and either work in the science or engineering field, forensics, or a career with special needs children.

Any comments?
I would love to learn more about how others manage their life, relationships, and emotions with AS. I am relatively friendly so please feel free to ask me any questions you might have as well. Thanks for reading about me...

I have never fit in anywhere and I'm a social outcast. I thought I'd outgrow this awkwardness by now, but I am still unable to meld completely with society. I knew I thought 'differently' than most people, and that something was fundamentally wrong with the way I perceived the world. 7 years ago I think I found out why, when my psychologist tested me for AS, and was diagnosed with it later that year. I look forward to reading posts in this forum and hopefully be able to converse with people of like-mind.
