Some of my obsessions...

Finding spelling/grammar mistakes
Counting everything (brushing teeth, stairs, words in a sentence, etc.)
Religion vs science debates
Dates of historical events
Cosmology/Astronomy

Some are more OCD related I guess.

I like Politics, especially when it has to do with really intricate quirks of law. I also really like History -- y'know, the obscure kind -- and Trains. Because trains are awesome.

*Armored Core and Final Fantasy games - generally any games based around numerical values.
*Transformers - Marvel comics only, thank you very much. I can recite the entire storyline for memory.
*Writing - Not telling stories or putting together poems, just writing itself. Making every single letter unique and beautiful, and perfect in its own right. Sometimes a single page in my diary can take an hour, but the satisfaction makes it worthwhile.
*Fancy Dress and Costume Design - especially costumes involving bandages.
*Muscles - anatomical drawing, and general obsession with the way they (plus the tendons and ligaments) work.

That's a select few.

Events in the world! Mee too!
Political junkie, die hard liberal, Adlai Stevenson Democrat ( look it up!) completely devastated by what the Bushies have done to our beautiful experiment in a democratic republic. I log into TalkingPointsMemo.com at 5:25 AM and check in all day (I have devised a scheme to do so at work) sometimes chaffing that there has been no updates for three whole minutes. GoogleNews, al Jazeria, Manchester Guardian, Xiang News service, I sleep with either KGO radio from SanFrancisco or the BBC overnight service in my ear.

Witness to the World, that's me!

I represent two aspies, therefore two lists!

Myself:

Pinecones,
(collecting, cleaning, organizing/ catagorising and packing away)

seedpods,
(stalking flowers developing "pods" collecting ripe seeds, organizing seeds for storage. Rarely actually try to grow the seed as I prefer nursery quality/ grade seed)
flowers.

My sons Acedemics (definately a good thing for him)

Teaching my other two children french (don't speak it myself, have infiltrated the Francophone community using my barely french speaking husband as a pawn!)

Guinea pigs

My Son:

As a preschooler,
Stacking items,
Thomas (What Aspie Toddler can resist Thomas?)

Around 6 years of age:
Ghost Busters (he is only 12 now, so this was very odd and out of date)

Around 7/8/9
The Titanic
The Lancaster (a WWII plane)
WWII weponry and battles

Around 9/10
Continued interest in above three, not as strong.
Terminator films.

Around 11 to now:
Star Trek
The Hida (WWII Canadian Dystroyer)
James Bond.

Have you ever tried Calligraphy?

This is a fun topic!

My obsessions are:

* American West history (migrations): more accurately, the Chisholm Trail, Bonnie and Clyde, the Dust Bowl migrants, Native American removal in the Southern Plains
* Human geography (movement of people): more accurately, vernacular cultures, city development, categorizing regions
* maps - I study them for hours and hours, and I collect them (I've got some old ones)
* Holland's RIASEC typology: categorizing people with certain intrests and traits
* Route 66, Diners, Old Motels, Neon Signage - I go on a lot of road trips
* Collecting photos of calabooses (one-room jails)

My husband doesn't understand these interests, as his passions are tangible - electronics, vintage video games.

My child, who has AS and is the one who got me to come to terms with my own AS, started his obsessions with water towers when he was 2. He then collected street reflectors, and he could even name the street he got each reflector from (we have over 100 of them). He collects American coins. Right now, he's interested in Hot Wheels cars, which is an "acceptable" interest, I suppose. He gets in trouble at school for picking up bottle caps, and he brings all sorts of "debris" into school to show his teacher.

My son is 8 and is the most fascinating person I know.

My mother told me she does this. (I always knew she did, but I got the confession the other day)

She had occasion to "write" to a buyer of her eggs, and so she decided to get a card, and "write" out her message to the person, who she also considers a friend. She took great care to get out her special occasion "green gel pen" and make each and every letter perfect! It took her the better part of 20 minutes to write a short paragraph. Afterwards, she was very satisfied with her accomplishment and sent it off.

A few days later, she got an email from the guy, who told her "even your handwritting is artistic and beautiful!" Now that really made her week!
