Kitty bling!

The clay perseveration continues. These are the Swirly Purple & Blue™ ones.

This has gotta be some kind of record for me. Usually I've thrown in the towel by the end of the week!

We're still recovering from yesterday. Turkey, turducken, oyster dressing, Creole pork dressing (came in the turducken), carrot souffle, green bean casserole, collard greens with smoked turkey, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie (made with real sweet potatoes!), ambrosia salad...

Maybe it's a good thing that we ran low on grocery money. H had been planning to add ham, homemade macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes to the menu. Oy! :)

Even with the original Dino Cafe I think we had what. . .500 pages there?

But I think the 'threadkillers' thread has far more pages if not as gripping content, and the "Post a Real Pic of your self" is even more.

It's official - Spike is a girl!! !!

She laid her first little egg overnight. It's the size of a m&m candy.
(Well, color ME surprised!) Good thing I haven't got her in the cage with the other finches (even if she recognized them as peers) or I'd be a grandmother! Uh... or something.

Wow, only the size of an M&M? She's going to have to get busy if you're going to have spam, spam, spam, eggs, spam, spam, spam, baked beans, and spam!!

I know! But she's not a mum, there's no male in the cage (not even her!). It's just an infertile egg (thank goodness, not good for a bird so young to be having clutches of eggs yet). I was going to throw it out, but she pecked at me and made quite a stink about me touching it. It has to come out of there, of course, but I'm thinking there might be some way to preserve it - it's so delicate I'm not sure if I could drain it like an Easter Egg and then varnish it or something.... It really is tiny, but about the right size. Between the size of a regular M&M candy, and a small peanut M&M candy.

She was not exactly huge when we found her when she'd just hatched. If memory serves, she fit entirely on a quarter coin, that first day. Which probably wasn't her first day of life-outside-the-shell. Here's a photo (got the egg while she was bathing) next to a U.S. penny coin and Papermate pen, for scale. Yeah, at this rate the Egg Ranch isn't going to be able to keep up with production demand for spam, spam, eggs, and spam.

Of course, I was silly and felt sorry for the parents, now that it's cooler again, and bought them a little rattan nest, and one for the societies, too. And I suspect they're doing what Zebra finches do best up there in those little nests, and soon Spike will be an auntie.

well, I must say this is the first time I saw the whole sketch! I have always marveled/wondered at where the VIKINGS came into the picture.
