Favorite subjects: history, biology, astronomy

Year/Grade: some college. now in the workforce.

Favorite music: modern rock-Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, REM. Classic Rock-Rolling Stones, led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Neal Young. Blues-Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, Lightnin Hopkins

Books: fantasy/sci-fi/horror authors such as George R.R. martin, Scott Bakker, Steven Erikson, Richard K Morgan, Alastair Reynolds, Kim Stanley Robinson, Lovecraft, Niel Gaiman (amoung many others). Moby dick, Crime and Punishment, Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne. Also read a great deal of history from a variety of eras focused on a range of subjects with a focus on the World War periods, late Roman Republic and German history (particularily during the 17 and 18th centuries).

TV shows/Movies: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Babylon 5, Futurama, Mythbusters, CSI, House, Dirty Jobs, Battlestar Gallactica (remake). Movies-The Lord of the Rings, Princess Bride, Aliens, the Abyss, The Thing (John Carpenter's), Cannibal the Musical

Instrument: almost funny. I can't carry a tune in a bucket. though I played trumpet in middle school and managed to achieve decent proficiency through a lot of work. I can run a mixing board pretty decently though

Do you like sports? yes. particularily college basketball and to a slightly lessor degree pro football.

Family: my wife and 2 daughters (by my first wife). also 3 cats and a dog.

Clothing: eh, whatever is comfortable. I really don't have a style so much as a lack of one.

Plans for the future? enjoy raising my children, finish our basement, spend a lot of time reading, get back to disney world before my girls are too old, travel.

Any comments? I hope to hang around here some and learn more about this disorder and how to better help my daughter deal, as an asperger's person, with a nonasperger's world.

Why are you here?: Because after I found out about AS, I went bezerk and really wanted to find people with AS who could give me more specific / day to day information about it, as the websites whilst very specific in points are designed for a general description of AS.

When were you diagnosed?: Haven't been diagnosed yet, but hoping to be, if only for my own piece of mind

Do you like sports? I enjoy watching Soccer(Football), Rugby League and Tennis. I like playing around with those sports in my own time, often by myself, but don't really like playing as a team.

Plans for the future? Well i'm married, and kids were in the future, but the marriage is on a knife edge at the moment and I don't know if I want to have kids right now. Aside from that, i'd like to further my career, understand myself and develop a home life I am content with. I would also like to make a film of a script I have written and put on a photography exhibition with my Uncle

Why are you here? I felt like I had something in common with many people here. But just how much, I'm not certain.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): At the age of three, I think.

Favorite subjects: Mathematics, and I enjoyed English and History towards the end of secondary school but it was more of an amusement for me.

Year/Grade: Third year in college

Favorite music: Mercury Rev (especially the early stuff w/David Baker), Tim Buckley, Einstuerzende Neubauten, Faust (the band), Brian Eno, The Residents, Taj Mahal Travellers, Cecil Taylor. As far as classical goes I like big bombastic modern pieces that aren't necessarily "tuneful", usually tuning into Stravinsky or Scelsi or Messaien, and avant-garde music.

Books: One of my great shames is that I never really got into the habit of reading. I wouldn't have read enough books lately to have clear favourites. I really liked Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis. Currently I'm reading Ulysses, and though I marvel Joyce's writing usually when I say "I'm reading Ulysses" it's code for "I'm not reading anything at all".

TV shows/Movies: I don't like them enough to have much of an opinion. Sometimes I like strange movies but I couldn't think of any big favourites off the top of my head.

Instrument: Another great shame of mine is that I never really picked up an instrument.

Do you like sports? No. I was very competitive as a child, but kept underperforming in sports because I am exceptionally untalented. I am tall and my frame wouldn't let me down but my fitness level was always low and my co-ordination is impaired. I am convinced that I am dyspraxic, but have not been officially diagnosed.

Family: I am an only child.

Clothing: Whatever is closest to hand in the cabinet when I'm getting up in the morning.

Location: Wichita Falls, Texas (nearest major cities are Dallas and Oklahoma City). I will be relocating to San Marcos, Texas (between Austin and San Antonio) later this year

Hobbies and Interests: Art, architecture, geology, maps, urban planning, foreign languages and cultures, and cars.

Why are you here? To have fellowship with other Aspies, and to give insight on how we deal with AS.

When were you diagnosed? 1996, at age 16

Favorite subjects: geography, economics, foreign languages.

Year/Grade: junior in college, about to be a senior.

Favorite music: Anything but country

Books: Mainly non-fiction, but Beowulf, Lord of the Flies, Huck Finn, the Crucible, and the Canterbury Tales are pretty good.

TV shows/Movies: TV: South Park, the Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, anything on Comedy Central, anything on Adult Swim, most game shows, King of the Hill, Monk, and Ugly Betty. Movies: Comedies (especially the Zucker Bros. movies--Airplane!, Naked Gun, etc.), foreign films, and indie films.

Age: 54

Location: Sunshine Coast, Australia. On top of a mountain, beside a rainforest, and a long way from neighbours and cars.

Hobbies and Interests: Where do I start? Special interests just never seem to end. Some consistent ones are: Flying full size and radio controlled aircraft and helicopters, software design (mainly embedded stuff - does not have to interact with nt's), electronic design.

Why are you here? Aspie - finally beginning to understand the reasons behind all of the events in my life.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): By my wife early in our marriage (she is an OT and Psychologist with specialist training in Autism - works mainly with kids). I didn't take it too seriously back then, but recent events in my life have made me take an in-depth look.

Favorite subjects: Just about anything that is written as long as it is true.

Year/Grade: Engineering degree (QLD Uni). Post grad work in maths and applied computing.

Favorite music: Any, but prefer single instruments - say classical guitar, pan flutes, etc. Not a fan of orchestras - lots of noise and I can't hear the instruments.

Books: Fiction - spy thrillers only. Non-fiction - most anything.

TV shows/Movies: British detective dramas. Documentaries.

Instrument: None really. Play with Harmonica from time to time when no one is listening.

Do you like sports? Yes. Poor at ball sports - I played squash fixtures for 14 years and only got to C-grade, and played B-grade rugby when I was in the AirForce but only because I could run fast. Despite this my coordination is excellent. I have a national title for flying radio controlled aerobatics. At present I race bicycles on track and road. I am also a junior cycling coach and club level commissaire (same as referee). I also do long distance brevets, otherwise known as Audax rides. I wasn't too bad an archer once apon a time. Tried lots of other things at some time or another - each one was a special interest for a while.

Family: 1 brother & 2 sisters, all younger. Mum died 2 years ago. Dad died 3 weeks ago. Serious life changing stuff!! ! Married with a 12 year old son who we think may be an aspie too. He has just entered grade 7 and is copping some bullying.

Job: Lots of things and they did not all end well!! !. Taught flying for several years before branching into general charter. Own business for last 14 years - originally a charter aviation company, more recently contract design and manufacture of embedded control systems. I do it all - mechanical, electrical, software. Had enough - too much work, not enough money, and too many thieves to deal with.

Plans for the future? Shortlisted for final interview for a senior position in government - traffic engineering - responsible for all of the electronic signalling systems. This should be a challenge - an opportunity to test out my personal growth over the past 15 years.
