Richie's new "lurking" icon always makes me think of the beginning of Voltaire's Goodnight Demonslayer (one of Iain's favorite lullabys)...

There's a monster that lives beneath your bed -
Oh, for crying out loud,
It's a futon on the floor,
He must be flat as a board...

Mine is not nearly so interesting. I've lost 8 lbs. Just 60 more to go!

That is good news! And it IS interesting how those 8 lbs. lead to 16 and then 32.. and so on. Now that I've finished the "just 60 more to go" I can tell you those first 8 were the hardest. :)

I keep "falling off/out" of this thread. The 'watch this thread for replies' thingie is broken and I keep forgetting to come back to the Cafe.

Workaround: Click 'watch this thread for replies'. This will take you to the first page of the discussion. At the bottom of the page click 'watch this thread for replies' again. That should work. Works in reverse too, (Stop watching this topic). Also, you could just post something, if you checked 'Always notify me of replies' in your profile.

well, we can make more cookies!

My supervisor for the last two and a half years was forced into retirement and her last day was Monday the 30th. I loved her, literally, she was there for me as I explored getting a DX and helped me get Leave of Absences when I needed to take a day off, helped me find a psychologist to finally give me an assessment. She is my friend.

But she belongs to a very strict religious sect that eschews birthdays and Christmas and Thanksgiving and any sort of celebration. She doesn't even eat a slice of birthday cake as just a desert if it has been set out for a birthday or retirement party. So our team never bonded over little celebrations, nothing went on with holidays, nothing to punctuate the year.

But now, I have a new supervisor, and a new team and they play minature golf on Tee Off Tuesdays, and have fabulous food days, and decorate for holidays, even for Solstice! (their motto is the more holidays the better!) I am going to enjoy this~ I am going to decorate my apartment this year and see if I can get into the season like I did when I was a little kid.
I am not religious, I don't think I am even a Christian, but frankly, since when is Chistmas about religion?

Merle

A boat designer once got an unusual request:

Quote:
"I need a boat just big enough for me and my neighbor's wife. What do you recommend..?"

It is a tough question put that way, so I asked, "How big is she..?"

I did not hear back from him...
