We got hit with 6" of snow here in South Central PA. Probably double in North Central PA and
Tennessee might have gotten hammered as well. I'll post a few pics if I can get out and about.

Forget the pics it is all melting now....The hardest hit were areas closest to the coast: Baltimore 23",
New york City 22", Washington DC and parts of Virginia 24". I am about 50 miles North and west of
Baltimore and only got about 6".

Hello to all, and Merry Christmas! :santa:
I'm fine - just working a lot - and studying more.
I hope that you are all well! :) Congrats Richie on your post-count! :thumleft:
Happy belated birthday Lau! :king:
Welcome back Lauri! :D
I read today that Kim Peek passed, and it made me realize that it's been
some time since I 'stopped in' to visit with all my favorite savants here on WP.
(...was engrossed in perseverations. Who'da guessed it?! )
Howdy Merle, Nan, Gromit, Jon, Lemon, Postie, Lelia, Courtney... don't want to leave anyone out -
but I'm on my way to work another 16 hour shift, so please forgive any unintentional omission!

Here's a toast to Kim Peek, who I never met, but who seemed like a cool guy! :salut:

Luvs yas all!
Chuck :rendeer:

Glad to see you are OK and in good spirits :)
That is really sad about Kim Peek, he wasn't Autistic as such but he was an inspiration to the Neurodiversity crowd.
If Postie is using kerosene heaters I hope he has a carbon monoxide detector and a fire extinguisher handy.

G'day all youse Dino-Aspies. Thanks for posting the link to Crazy Uncle Steve's page, Nan. The Guitar Hero video, even though it wasn't his, was wicked awesome. :headbang: As usual there are a few people in our town who have gone completely overboard *ahem* I mean put a big effort into their Chrissie lights. Might have to drive around and look at them tonight.

Happy holidays all. :santa:

CHUCK! I heard about Kim Peek, too! Younger than some of us, too. What a blessing to go cleanly and quickly and relatively early!

I wish everyone a very merry whatever the winter / summer season offers! Sorry to hear about fire at Postie's, never a good thing, fire out of control.

Merle

Yes, Merry Christmas to All of you.

I have here our houseguest, two grandsons, two nieces, our daughter, her daughter age two, and two idiot dogs. The kiddos stayed up late making some kind of cereal marshmallow concoction. I don't think they used a recipe. The results look like they could be used in a monster movie. The Christmas Tree shines brightly. The grandsons spread stuff around, the two year old makes sure all the stuff ends up on the floor, and the dogs make sure all the stuff on the floor is chewed to bits.
I took all to see the Frog Princess. Like all Disney movies, there was rather more emphasis on the black magic side of things, but oh! What a Princess! And all those 40s dresses. And great music. And a two year old who changed whose lap she was sitting on every minute or so. What fun. I thought Belle was the best princess, but now I think this one, Tiana, is.
I also encountered a leaf on the wet deck, and the leaf won. When I stopped falling and lay with my head on the stair, the two dogs were on my face. Was I ok? What fun! Was I ok? Fur and tongues and feet. That got me up and the Chinese Crested raced off all excited to go potty and race back before they froze to death. I'll be all sorts of colors by Christmas.

Ouch, Lelia. Isn't it funny how you're meant to turn "black and blue," but in practice you turn almost every colour except those? Purple, orange, gold, green... :colors:

Your dogs sound like treasures. :thumleft: Merry Christmas to you and your house-full.

Ah.... I thought I'd drop by with all my exciting Christmas news.

Yesterday I watched lots of TV - all saved rather neatly on my new "BT vision" freeview toy - except for "Asperger's? - Oops, Wrong Planet", which was transmitted on our "Teacher's TV" channel, is billed as "Documentary exploring Asperger's syndrome and the idea that a large number of the geniuses of the past, from Isaac Newton to Andy Warhol, had the syndrome", says it has recorded 1hr 7min, but just shows up totally blank. No doubt I'll also fail to record it when they repeat it (if ever).

I also took delivery (on time, but without an outlet extension, which I'd told them would be needed) of my new Washer/Dryer (needed, because in this new place, I have nowhere to dry clothes). Anyway, the initial wash cycle (without clothes) happened, after I'd gone out, bought the hose, and a connector, and come back, to find that (with a bit of encouragement) the existing hose could just be stretched the extra four inches, and connected up OK. A couple of coloured washes last night, and now a "whites" wash today.... this is fun. I guess I'm caught up with by three week backlog of laundry - time to try out a woollens wash, to resuscitate my old "Guernsey Guernseys" guernseys. Or just maybe... I'll buy myself a new, green one: Image

So... the TV box is now set up to record 100 programs over Christmas and the New Year... and that was just the first five of my 53 channels. (OK, so the rest include things like shopping channels, which I've not likely to record. :)) I have some peanuts in, which is about as close to "festive fare" as I think I'll bother, this year.

What else... hopefully I'll unpack some more. This keyboard is irritating me, as two of the keys have decided not to come back up, the full distance. I think I'll have to take it apart, and jiggle some of the silly plastic bits around, to put some less "tired" ones under the more heavily used keys.

Waffle.

Happy season of goodwill to all!

Been playing host to family friends for several days now - Tuesday morning, they dropped their four kids off here so I could keep an eye on them while Dawn and H finished up some Christmas shopping, then Dawn's husband Justin insisted on taking them all out for the evening (he only needs about three or four hours of sleep a night, and often forgets that others aren't so blessed). So, the kids spent the night. In the morning, I was the only one able to be up with them, as Justin had to report in (he's in the Army, and his unit hasn't deployed yet), then H had to go up to Everett to try to take possession of a friend's house keys from an unreliable house-sitter - who, unsurprisingly, failed to show up - then out to shop some more. Then they came home just in time for Justin to take them out again. So now we're starting Day 3, although I have been promised that the children will be going home tonight so they can have a family Christmas in the morning - before they come back over here....

I'm so glad that we got this house, so now I have my own room. And I have learned that one of my gifts is going to be another power cord for my computer, so I can retreat into my lair for prolonged periods to recover from all this - Hypothetical God knows I need that!!

Of course, on the other hand, Justin is getting discharged from the Army (his unit pulled shenanigans with his psych meds because his lithium prescription would have kept him from deploying to Afghanistan somehow - so his bipolar disorder became so pronounced that he got a medical discharge), and J, being a good friend of his, offered to let them stay in what will one day be J's office until Justin can get a steady job, so I'm going to be needing to spend a lot of time in the lair, I think...

In other news, I think I finally found a way to explain to NTs why I don't like to go "hang out".

"You're a normal person," I begin, "with fairly normal interests. Do you think you'd enjoy a pleasant evening of solvng biquadratic polynomial equations? Because that's what a party is often like for Aspies - except that some of the variables change value after you think you've resolved them, completely randomly. Not a lot of fun, as you can see..."
