Good luck with your job Merle. As for my job, I was recently transferred from a production
line to the machine room where I am being trained as a die setter and machinist's helper.
This job has more responsibilities than being a production line wiper but there is not as much
aggravation and insanity. As for tactile issues I now deal with grease instead of sticky sealer.
Grease is easier for me to deal with than silicone goop.

My uncle Abo (long A. . bo, a Southern States nickname for Albert) was a machinist for Cardwell Manufacturing in Wichita, KS that machined parts for the Oil Wells of Oklahoma and Texas. During WWII he made precision dies for the US Army for their tanks because it was necessary to have die sets machined with tolerances of less than one thousandth of an inch. His meticulousness made him one of the best in the country.

What a wonderful chance, Richie!

Minds me of the career my father finally settled into - first a machinist, then quality control, in manufacturing environments with tolerances in the ten-thousandths range. His initials are inside the tail sections of almost every Boeing 737 in the air today.

He tried to retire when he hit 65, but that didn't work out so well for him, and he had to go find another job in the manufacturing area - much happier that way than puttering about the house (never was much good at the whole "puttering" thing, unlike his son!). :)

well, interesting you asked, Sarah. :chin: Jazz is quite a statement/word/concept and it quintessentially American. It started as a style of dance music popular in the 1920s played by large bands. The word was taken from slang from turn of the 19th century New Orleans term for having sexual intercourse, because it started out slow and built to a crescendo. Now there is cool jazz music, hot jazz music, Dixieland jazz music and 'being jazzed' relates to the upbeat and even ecstatic communion of the dancer with the music.

in other words, I am happy, pleased and very very excited at the prospect of moving my existence to Portland, Oregon :D

we have serious rat-chewage-on-bars again. he's ignoring his chewies and his food and is frantically chewing on the bars. will have to watch for rumblies - apparently we had another aftershock this morning but they've become so common that i'm not even noticing them if they're not close to 5 pointers.

merle, yes, you should check out that puresque - they might not order a small amount for you, but if they do, it's really nice-seeming stuff. i particularly liked that you can wash it with 50% bleach-to-water and it won't fade the color, as the color is in the fibre itself, not added to the outside. i think they call it solution-dyed fiber.

oh, so it is not like they have it on the rolls there at the shop? then I think I will go down to the local wearhouse carpet place and see what they have . I only need a couple yards to do the whole van.

Did I tell you I named my van "V-ger?" Some people get it, some don't. I will love finding those that understand and have fun educating others as to it's significance.

Merle

So, do you think anyone will figure that V-ger is actually my body and my brain is that vehicle that is driven to learn all that can be learned, and return that information to its creator whomever or what ever that is, (probably me, though. on some endless loop)

oh, and Nannerl, dusty rose for the color of the rug, the walls and ceiling is a suade sort of fabric of gold and my curtains are hunter green velvet lined with bottle green satin. The sun curtains are white lace I am going to dye a less saturated dusky rose. Did I mention I am a Scorpio?

Nice!

PS - Tennyson the Rat was right.

Series of small ones, then another over 4.0 - not huge, but he's feeling 'em. He's gone to sleep now, so I guess nothing is on the immediate event horizon for us. Handy having the little guy around, even when he's doing nothing other than being cute as can be....
