Actually, he was great with the kids - it was the adults he had trouble with...

Fortunately, we had gotten him for free, so we weren't out anything, and a cursory glance at Craigslist shows a number of other free dogs available. :)

I would love to join your forum. 51 year old mom with AS, son 13 with AS and daughter 11 somewhere there... Finally getting better at understanding life but not most people, don't think that will ever happen and I'm not so bother by them not seeing the depth now, if that makes sense.

Anyhow Happy New Year to all!

Sure you can join. Just memorize the Official Dino Aspie Cafe anthem which has the same melody as "My Favorite Things" from the Rodgers and Hammerstein
Musical "The Sound of Music":

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied
up in string, These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads
and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes ! grow dim ,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hi from another poster still quite new to WP. I live in the UK & have just had a shock to the system in turning 40.
I ended up here after researching AS as so much of it was new *and* made perfect sense of a lot of things that hadn't really made sense before.
What a great discovery, I only wish i'd done so much earlier as life has been such a struggle to understand *why* things are so difficult or different for me compared with my friends or colleagues. However, thankfully creaky dinos can still learn new things, so nice to (virtually) be here with you all at last :D

And if you sing it while ordering a Turbo stair lift (so fast, it gets you upstairs before you forget why you wanted to go there) you get a discount. If someone here offers to speed up the machine a little more with booster rockets and duct tape, politely decline. Then run. Or totter, if you have reached my level of creakiness.

Well, great, you went and warned them off. Now what am I supposed to do with all these booster rockets and this duct tape?
