Hi lau! Long time no see.....

Yeah.

My excuse is maybe my job (herding cats... or rather, aspies), which seems to take all my time. My days off are often spent sleeping (last night I managed fourteen hours).

I did have a few days off, after Easter, with various family members, when I got to have a scorpion sit on my hand, at Longleat.

I've also, for the first time in my life, donated blood. I tried to, about 30 years ago, but my childhood epilepsy meant they rejected me. Anyway... it appears they have changed their mind about that. They sent me an invite, and I went along. Classically, you're supposed to have "tea and biscuits" after... but first timers are restricted to "squash and biscuits". Ho hum. Next time, I get a free keyring, showing my blood type. Hooray!

I'm not sure what made me suddenly reappear - it may be the wine.

And now I hear that Microsoft have stolen Skype from me. Waugh!! !

I'm not able to donate blood because my liver got turned into a toxic waste site because of the booze.......(Been sober, drug and smoke free for ten years now...)
Micro $haft bought Skype for $8.5 billion.....I guess we can call it $kype....(or swipe)...
Still unemployed and my medical bills are piling up. I need to get blood work done every week to monitor my Coumadin (Warfarin) intake.
I got my garden plots started up...planted 18 tomatoes, 12 peppers, 8 eggplants, a dozen or so cucumbers (both vine and bush type), green beans and various herbs.
Not much else happening here at Lake Whoop-Dee-Doo.......

Hmmm......Herding cats?

Quiet here, except when the college student who lives with us comes in. Then idiot dog barks and begs me to check out the invader because she is too scared to. Ruth has lived here since Christmas. You would think idiot would recognize her footsteps by now. And idiot won't eat her dog food anymore, she only wants the chicken feed.
Let's see, I am trying to get a garden started, but the cold and wet is killing the seedlings. Try again next week. The hawks fly by to see if any of the chickens will be in the open. Not until they are bigger than a hawk.

Largely lurking here, except for the occasional political or religious argument on other threads. Haven't had much emotional energy lately.

H finally got a proper diagnosis for the pain she's been in - lucky her, it's fibromyalgia. And most of the painkillers for that can react negatively with almost every antidepressant on the market. And since the Army keeps sending her to LPNs, rather than full-fledged doctors (who are, admittedly, kind of busy with soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan), she keeps getting lectures about her diabetes, rather than assistance with the problem she actually went in for. And then she feels like she wasted money getting there, because it's a fair distance to the base, so then she starts feeling guilty about that, which feeds into the depression... Fortunately, I finally persuaded her that the risk of complications from taking tramadol along with her new Effexor prescription, while potentially serious, is also low - I'm monitoring her for signs of serotonin syndrome, and at the first hint of seizure, we call an ambulance (which will probably take her to a nearby civilian hospital, where at least she can see a real doctor). Thanks to that, she's finally gotten her first night of good sleep in at least three weeks.

On the plus side, we've acquired two new dogs, who seem to be more interested in being actual pets than the last one. Casper, a teacup Pomeranian (I suspect mixed-breed) is mine, and has attached himself to me, but likes everybody. Roxy, a regular Pommy, is hers. Roxy's a bit high-energy for the nonce, but I suspect she'll settle down once the spay scars have healed (should be about Saturday) and she can take that silly collar off.

I've also been playing a new MMORPG a lot - a game called Champions Online, in which you construct a superhero. I like it both because I've always liked superhero comics, and because you can solo almost the entire game, so I don't have to try to interact with other people when I'd rather not. (And when I do get involved in the occasional pickup group, there's none of this nonsense about "playing your class" - you're a superhero, you're supposed to fight all the bad guys!)

Sufi who is forgetting things: when I find myself getting much stupider than usual, I take nystatin to kill some of the internal yeast, and after a few weeks I get back to a more acceptable level of stupid.

Good News! I signed a contract with Written World Communications for my Shatterworld Trilogy. They will publish it sometime in the next 18 months.

Okay, turned out Effexor was exactly the wrong thing. She had every negative side effect on the list short of sudden death, and no relief of her depression. A quick trip to the ER later, and she had a few days' worth of Vicodan, and a refill of her Zoloft scrip. She got in to see the LPN the day after her Vicodan ran out; I was unable to be there with her, so I sent a strongly-worded note reminding the LPN that while diabetes can indeed be quite serious over the long run, if she killed herself because she couldn't take the pain any more there wouldn't be a long run. I also included a suggestion to add Lyrica, citing its functioning by binding to the calcium channel as evidence that it might tend to interfere with sensory nerves, especially pain nerves. Her response was, apparently, "Did he Google this?" (To which I would reply, "Yes, I did. Why? Didn't you?") She did prescribe generic Lyrica, though, along with a Tramadol at bedtime, and clinical levels of naproxin. So far, it's working, and still no sign of interaction with her Zoloft...

I'm sorry that Effexor turned out so badly. For me it's okay except for the side effects of making me obese (What? You thought the avatar was not a picture of me?) and for making me even more heat sensitive. But I really like not being depressed, so I will live with it.
Went to an interesting aspie support group yesterday. Topic of discussion: boundaries. Realized I jump over lots of them. Oh.

I don't know if I'm allowed in this thread but I'm cranky and that's in the title so here goes. I have my 3rd therapy appointment in 7 hours, but it's not close, so I have to leave in 6 hours, so I need to be up in 5 hours (or earlier). I'm really worried cuz she said that she was going to actually give me some kind of test but I don't know what the test is and what if I do something wrong and uh, the what ifs are killing me.

This has made my insomnia worse, hence why I'm up now.

I'm also really worried about some bills I'm having a ton of trouble getting the money together for because my online non-job has cut our pay again.

Lastly I have some kind of hideous rash on my arms. I have no idea if it's psychosomatic (like shingles or something) or a virus or what but it's itchy and painful and I don't have any money to go to a doctor. Also I hate doctors anyway. None of the creams that my dad had and let me borrow are helping me at all with it.

Has anyone heard from Nan lately? I've been out of touch here in the Cafe.

Hello everyone. I haven't been to the cafe for some time but knew I needed to come here today.

For those of you who remember Chuck, the Bouncy I have some unfortunate news. It seems that this past Sunday, he broke his back when he fell from a tree. If anyone learned anything about our pharmacist friend there will be no questioning as to why he was in a tree. I always wondered what I would feel if something horrible befell a close online friend like him and now I know.....

That's horrible! How did you hear of this?
