Hey guys, I'm flying into Denver tomorrow, and then driving to Colorado Springs to meet with my publisher (who, by the way, is also Aspie) I am excited.

Hello, I've sneaked in here a bit early as I won't be 40 for a few months yet!

I found out I have Asperger's a few weeks ago so I'm new here and this is all new to me. However, it came as quite a relief after all those years of not knowing why I was 'different'!

Caroline

Caroline, yes, knowing is such a relief. Have a muffin.
Well, I'm back from my little sortie to colorado springs to meet with Kris of Written World Communications. Wow! Went to two great restaurants, joked and laughed all day. And they gave me a bunch of free books! I read Ripper Grimm on the plane back home.
I screwed up my bluetooth connection to my new hearing instruments pretty much all of the time, and fumbled, bumbled every mistake I could on my new 4G phone. Twas an error to get both two days before the meeting. Well, there you go. I can write about people using technology, I just can't use it.
I am excited about the first book coming out in January. Did I tell you earlier that an aspergrrl is the hero?

Nervous that the Dr. will think I'm weird for asking for a referral since I don't "seem" like I have aspergers. And its a really big step for me.

My Dr. gave me a referral to the Dr I suggested. The Dr. I picked specializes in adults with autism. Since I seem "normal" to everyone, I wanted someone who knows how women can hide aspergers.
My doctor was nice. He thinks I have depression and not aspergers lol I think I have both.

We will see what happens next... :flower:

Fun times today...

Hillary's been out of her antidepressants for two days, and out of gabapentin (for her fibro) since yesterday morning. And she had to get up early for her weekly psych appointment (thank heavens, as it turns out). So she wasn't in the best of moods. So while I was down putting Iain on the bus, she got a call from the school - while she was in the shower, which didn't help - telling her that a rep from the school district had visited Iain's classroom, observed him for an entire hour, and concluded that he didn't need any accommodations. (As you may recall from a previous post, he's clearly ADHD, and was recently diagnosed with AS as well.)

Fortunately, I was able to help her turn her emotions around into anger at the district, for violating the state constitution (which explicitly guarantees each child a free and appropriate education), so when we can get a meeting that involves the district rep, we're going to tear said rep a new one. This is a new thing for us; we never had to fight for any of Morgana's accommodations, the districts were always more than happy to get her into the most appropriate classroom for her. This is also my first experience with networking, really - I know the psychologist that serves 'Gana's school (had a meeting with her just last week, in fact - apparently, I wasn't supposed to score and interpret the test results, even though the instructions were right there in English and everything), and she in turn knows the one that works at Iain's school, so I'm dropping her an email...

(Also fortunately, her therapist is on the far side of the Army base from here, so she was able to swing by and refill her prescriptions at the same time.)

My guess is that their budget has been slashed and they're looking to save money where ever they can, even on the back of a kid.

Sad times. Hope it works out.
