Welcome aidysmum! I don't have kids, though my best friend has an AS child. So, I don't have anything especially wise to say there. But, I can give you a quick note from the opposite side. I'm 35 & only found out I have AS a few months ago. And I was thrilled. Haha. It explained so much. But, I will say this... I don't hate my life. I'm not miserable. If you asked me to list 20 things about myself, it probably wouldn't even occur to me to mention that I have AS & Bipolar Disorder. I'm just a person with a slightly quirky brain & that's just me. Yes, I've spent time feeling isolated & been picked on, etc. I'm not saying it's a walk in the park. But the thing that has saved me & allowed me to be okay with myself is family. :) It's great that you are doing your research & talking to others who have ASDs or people in their lives who do. Knowledge is always power. But, I think, sometimes it comes down to the simplest thing. Love your kid, make sure he knows you accept him, be aware that he may need to handle some things differently, but just embrace him as the individual he is. (I'm sure you know that, but just saying that's something that made a huge difference for me... I'm still a huge Mama's girl. LoL. When the world isn't making sense, Mom makes sense).

I have to agree on the good vibe. I've mostly been reading special interest stuff so far, so maybe I just haven't run into anything controversial. But, from other message boards, I'm used to people flaming & jumping all over each other for no reason whatsoever. And I haven't seen that here.

Kind of surprising, with a forum full of naturally blunt people. You'd think there would be misunderstandings. But, so far I've not seen that at all. Not sure exactly how to describe what I mean in a more complete way, but "good vibe" works. :D

Best of luck & glad you've found this forum - RR
