Is there anyone else from N.I on this thing and if so, did they experience the process like I did?

I have started asking my community psychiatric nurse for a diagnosis. I see the Psychiatrist next month and will bring it up again. I think I'm in for a long wait. Any tips?

You might bring along old records (school records count), including accounts from your parents, if applicable. How you were when you were a child is very relevant and best if your family contributes. I think very good you bring up the topic and a formal Dx does matter. Plus a trustworthy diagnostician with experience. Good luck.

I got locked into cataloging my books on google books and then this hot weather we have been having in Belfast has not been helping. P.s. Anyone else seem to experience like a reverse version Seasonal Affectve Disorder?

To fleeced, in my experience most people within the field of psychology know very little about ASD so you will probably find some form of resistance to the diagnostic assessment process. Like most doctors they tend to get insulted when you know more about the disorder than they do. You need to be referred on from your GP, unfortunately I didnt find him very effective and I ended up locating the centre where I got my diagnosis completed and discussing my options with the senior consultant there. I have an appointment tomorrow and will ask if you did what I did i.e. track them down and relentlessly demand the process to begin will they help you in the same way. I can help you out with the referral letter that your GP will need to send on and tell you exactly what you need to do. If its any help we can communicate through private message, as I dont seem to be too skilled with forums as of yet.

Also I agree with the points made by Labpet - regarding the same situation.
Tequila drop me a private mail and we can discuss meeting up there.

Thanks, again for the comments guys, I'm off to see if there is a pokemon group here :)

My assessment was by a specialist Adult Asperger and HFA unit within the Eastern Health and Social Services Board, based in Lisburn but travelling around the board area. I was assessed at Ards. As far as I know, the EHSSB is the first health board in NI to have such a service and it's relatively new, within the last couple of years, I think. I found out about them from Autism NI
http://www.autismni.org/
and then made sure that my GP knew that I knew about the service.

Hi, I'm from Belfast too. I was diagnosed in April at the City Hospital. I'd been going on and off for cognitive behavioural therapy for chronic social anxiety etc. Then was referred to a psychologist who made the City Hospital referral. This was all NHS.
