I'm 28, male, Australian.

Yea, I think 25 to 30 is an important stage for Aspies; it seems to be the age bracket in which many Aspies stop fighting against their AS and starting accepting it. There are a few under-25 Aspies I know who haven't accepted themselves yet or say that they are trying to "fight it". I was like that too. I think accepting yourself and seeking the company of like-minded people comes to many in their late twenties.

I was putting most of the blame on the AS in my early 20s and late teens.
That is when I was trying to improve my assertivness and communication skills.

I kind of walked away from it for a few years and now that I am in a situation where I should've been 5 years ago. I feel this time everything is my own fault. I feel as if I was too lazy to do something for the past couple years. Now I am afraid I took away those days to improve but instead I dwelled.
So as I return to school and maybe sooner find a job to make some money. I feel that I will not have enough energy to learn and complete what I want and need at a target time. I don't want to deal with anymore pressure, because I built up pressure when I did very little. I feel I won't have the fuel to enjoy my accomplishments and spend some energetic youth time with my accomplishments. Instead I feel that I will be out of steam and not be able to enjoy anything.
Yeah it is a selfish desire and an insecure desire but I haven't done so much in so long that I really want one chance.

i'm 29 from australia.
don't look my age (or act it, conventionally). everyone thinks i'm between 19 and 22.
it's weird having teenagers hit on you.
i find that most of the people i get along with seem to be either around 7 years younger or older than me. it would be nice to meet other aspies in my age group.

where are you all huh?

I'm 30 and live in Australia [actually.. I'll make that '29'..].
Aside from 'long term' friends that 'get me' I always have girls in their early twenties taking turns hasseling me to be their friend.. it'll last a few months then they get bored and they pick a fight by either standing me up, hanging up on me, lieing to me about the obvious [which I consider an insult to my intelligence thus a personal insult] trying to humilate me in front of a 'new' friend, borrowing something without returning it and the 2nd last one completely ruined my birthday despite insisting I should go out.. [I spent it outside a techno nightclub while she chased a married guy she's been chasing for a while] .. things that are generally abnoxious and move on. She even had the gall to ask me "Can you give me an estimate of when you'll forgive me so we can get back to normal?" At least some aspies have a reason for being socially inept. :x
I'm generally a loner yet I think I have attributes that some younger women want for themselves till they realise that they can't be 'acted' into creation.. these girls do piss me off and sometimes I wish they'd leave me alone in the first place instead of flitting from one novelty to another. The thing is I don't understand is when these girls are trying to 'pick a fight' to end a friendship.. why they keep contacting me for this purpose instead of just being honest about it? Want to go? Fine. You don't need my permission or a dramatic exit.. they do need to explain disrespect though. It's kind of like I become a surregant mother that needs to be rebelled against.. or they want to 'compete' with me which is totally illogical because everyone has their own stregths. Does anyone else attract these kinds of people?

Rant over- sorry guys.

Hi Little-bird.
Clubs I'm not too bad with.. [so long as they're aren't techno, too loud and full of sleezebags. I prefer ones with pool tables.] ..it's when I 'sense' something is wrong with friendships, I know the 'friend' is going to to turn bad and I can't prevent it or keep my dignity.

I got burnt again.. I think I'm having a run of bad luck. I asked my oldest friend [known eachother for 26 years- grew up best friends] to go to the Robbie Williams concert. I wanted to go with her as I haven't spent time with her for about two years. She said "Oh but my husband and I promised to go with two other couples about a year ago". She was tipped off that I was going to ask [I bumped into her mum] but still if she was a true friend she'd invite me to go as well and wouldn't be desperately trying to feed me excuses.. the tickets aren't brought so it's not exactly as though I'm messing everything up and there is no such thing as a seventh wheel. She adds.. "can't you just find someone else?" I said I'll just have to miss out. I know it sounds like emotional blackmail but I had pretty much decided that the friendship was over at that moment anyway. Maybe I might cramp her style or something. Ideally she would have said "That'd be fantastic.. I'll call the others and see if it will be alright.. I'm sure it will be. Can't wait to see you.. it's shaping up to be a really great night.. etc".

Sorry for winging. I feel abit embarrased about being so personal about my dramas but I figure thats what this place is for. I really felt like ending it all before.. needed to be purged.

I guess you just have to keep pushing yourself to participate until it feels more natural.. thats what I keep doing. Not sure if it's working but it's better than giving up I suppose.

I feel exactly the same. Time just keeps slipping by. I'm 29, and end up setting up lan parties with the teenagers around town, and that ends up being the social highlight of the week.

Okay, I started this because I feel I have fallen behind my peers. For the past couple years I feel as if i didn't care about interacting much. It kinda started earlier than that. AT first I was desperate to get more involved. I don't know if i was scared or if I was unique in not being to attached into interaction. Now as I snapped out of a stagnant phase. I became alert that I am a little older. I fear I won't catch up at all. I fear that I wasted my time on useless dwelling. Now I can't beat myself up on this ordeal but I know that I want to return to my interests and avoid the overthinking that stressed me out for too long now.

Phoenix, I'm the different side of the spectrum. All the partners I've had(I use the term Partners or friends with Benefits because I have never technically had a Girlfriend per se.) have been older than 25. I lost my virginity at 19 to a 25 year old stripper. I don't know why I attract older women.
Anyway. To the author of this thread... I'm 24 ,25 next month. So I guess I'm in the age range.

Hello all.

I'm glad I found this place, I think I really needed a place where I can fit IN for a change! And rant and get help...

I'm an 'Aspie', but not totally accepting it yet, I'm 25, from BC Canada, and I am in fact very depressed rather often. Not the manic kind you get hospitalised for (but I've been there, thats where I was diagnosed), but completely in a rut with my life. I'll discuss all aspects of my life failures in specific topics for that. Just wanted to say hello. But don't worry, I won't be like all sad and whining all the time... =P Just everyone here I'm sure needs their spotlight to get it all out!

On a seperate note, my site avatar doesn't show up, but its withen the 130x130 and 6kb thing. Does anyone know why it doesn't work??

I'm looking forward to learning more about people here, making some friends, and getting some much-needed help for myself as well.

Oh man! I just looked back at that 'I'm 25'. What a scarey thought! I certainly am not up to society's expectations of what a 25 year old should be. I still feel and act rather like a 14 year old, yet I'm more mature in other ways I suppose. Anyone else feel that way too? Its an Aspie thing I guess.

This place does seem pretty good, I'm starting to feel more comfortable as I read the forums more and more.

I am 30 and I'm in the same situation. I have bouts of anti-social and isolationist behavior. And then I wonder why I am lonely and why I have such a small group of friends. And sometimes even when they call I ignore them, too. It doesn't have that besides AS I have problems with anxiety in public, particularly in noisy/crowded places. I tend to get very tense, edgy and sweat a lot in a place like a crowded bar or club. For a couple of years it went away and I was able to go to those places without a problem.. then it came back twice as bad. When I go out I feel very self-conscious and nervous, typical symptoms of SAD. I was prescribed an antidepressant/anti-axiety drug and it had little effect. And then when I stopped taking it I had a serious bout of depression. Now I am back to not taking anything - I have my anxiety issues but at least I am "flying level" in that I'm not going from happy to depressed and back again. That, to me, is worse.

I miss my own kind even though I never truly fit in with them. In fact not fitting in with my peers made me miss them even more.

Same here I am 25 and I have a few friends and haven't had a great many in my life. I wonder when am I going to get to do all the fun things that most people my age already have done. I feel like I have wasted so many years for nothing.

I always wanted a relationship but how are you supposed to have that when you go into panic attacks talking on the phone. In fact I wouldn’t even mind a good friend that’s understanding instead of me always having to fake normalcy.

Well I can always hope I will find a girl in California that’s not superficial instead she is sweet and kind loves animals and hopefully maybe into planes or flight simulators…LOL in California YEAH RIGHT a guy can dream.
