We used to make pecan pies from the pecan trees in our backyard, but the past three years the squirrels have eaten most/all of them before we can get to them. So, I am not so fond of them.

However, we do have some great pictures of them lounging around on our deck. A few of them like to lay on the handrail with all of their legs hanging off the sides.

If a grey squirrel is captured for whatever reason over here (injury etc) then you're not allowed to release them back into the wild because they are not native to Britain and have made native red squirrels endangered.

Squirrels are great! I have a couple of peanut feeders for them, in a good position for me to get pictures of the visitors. Some of these pictures (from my previous home) are posted at my website http://scoogy.com under the section "backyard wildlife."

I like your pics! I'm partially to the bird pics, myself. :D

If the majority of those country-side pics are from around your town, Its a nice place, even though it's north of the Mason Dixen.

I wouldn't mind having a Squirle for a pet, but I don't think that I'd be brave enough to eat one.

Squirrels? Love ’em. Been told they’re really not that different from rats (fellow rodents) but people react differently to them just because they’re cute. (Like the halo effect with people!) I think they're better than rats because they usually stay outside and away from people (they usually don't bite; they run away). Fun to watch. Didn’t know which kinds were native to Britain and America respectively until now. Thanks!

This past spring I found one drowned in one of the bins outside after a rainstorm and felt so bad - got a shovel and gave him a burial (no box), thanking God for his creatures.

I've said it many times - a squirrel is just a rat with a good PR man.....
