Thank you, Namiko.

I'm not an extreme socialist. I do not believe in the dictatorship of the proletariat, and I believe that only some industries need to be nationalised.

My brother says that I am not actually a socialist at all, by Marx's definition, but I prefer to be called a socialist than a liberal because sometimes I don't think liberals go far enough in some areas.

It's a good thing I've got the Australian office of the conspiracy keeping an eye on you.

Oh, wait, you are the Australian office.

You wouldn't happen to have a mirror handy, would you?

I've been told I've too left feet, and I'm beginning to suspect both sides of my brain lean the same way. Socialism all the way. :D

Thats the way to go, comrade. :D

Is it just me, or do aspies tend to be very extreme on politics. Either we are marxists, or we are more right-wing than Reagan and Thatcher. There seems to be no happy medium with us. I have yet to meet an aspie who is interested in politics, but is very moderate (centrist).

Like I said, I am a moderate-leftist, but I do have a passionate hatred of most of those who disagree with my nebulous political opinions.

Most of that hate is reserved for conservatives, who are currently the ones screwing up my country. I have a slight contempt for the Democratic Party, which is sitting on its collective butt and letting the conservatives run wild.

IMO - all politicians lie in the pursuit of power. That's what politics is about - power.

The best form of government is one where there is competition in government (ie USA federation where States have power and restrict Federal grab for more power - that's what Australia is supposed to have, but it doesn't work).

A good government is a small and decentralised government. :D

I agree, but the environment must be kept safe, poor people taken care of, etc.

I'm not sure Australia has enough states for a federal system to work.

It doesn't depend on the number of the states but rather on the number of people in every state.

Sweden isn't a federal state but since 1997 some counties have been merged together to regions with a supposedly greater independence vs the government, among them my own county. Doesn't work very well though. So far it has only created more bureacracy and costed more tax money. And the three greatest counties in Sweden only have 1.6, 1.5 and 1.1 million people. The county with the smallest population only has 56000 inhabitants.

And when I say "county" it's something that technically and demographically is between a US county and a state. It's greater than a county in anglosaxon terms but smaller than a state and has, as mentioned, no real independence vs the government in Stockholm.

We have a fairly good social security support, so I tend to take that for granted. My impression of the USA is there is much less support for the poor or people with disabilities who cannot work.

I think our Federal System doesnt work because our States were too isolated from each other. There is some competition between governments for establishment of business and industry, which puts some limits on taxation to make a competitive environment for capital formation, but not enough.

120 years ago, there were 4 cities I can think of in Victoria about the same size as Melbourne (Castlemaine, Bendigo, Echuca, Ballarat) but becuase political power was centred in Melbourne, thats where most infrastructure and industrial growth was.

Whoa! Victoria has other municipalities besides Melbourne!

You really do learn something new every day.
