I was 23 before I fully realised I had Asperger's Syndrome. And when I did I suddenly felt happy because I knew I wasn't alone. Plus I don't feel like it's a bad thing to have anyway. In fact, judging by the vast majority of people I have spoken to on here, it's definitely not a bad thing. I accept it and am happy with it and if others don't like it, then that's their loss not mine.
Welcome to WP

Hello Fiz.
I also like knowing I'm not alone. So I appreciate the welcomes I've received from people here.
As I understand it, AS is a combination of strengths and weaknesses. The strengths include the ability to pursue a specialized topic energetically. That is certainly no bad thing.
What about the area of weakness, the "qualitative impairment in development of social skills"? I'm quoting from memory from the Wikipedia, words that seem to apply all too well to the way I myself developed. It was a source of frustration and concern to people who cared about me, as well as to myself. So I was pleased to read in the same article (and elsewhere) that aspies can gradually improve their social skills...
Perhaps that area of weakness, too, is no bad thing, in the sense that weaknesses of all sorts are part of the human condition. Even Superman has his allergy to kryptonite.
Best wishes
