No spouse for me. I do not people well at all and have historical problems when I try to people in the close proximity that intimate relationships require. That's ok. I'm more capable of clearing the divorce hurdle than the spouse hurdle. (heh)

Look Australia is going to hell in a honeybucket also. Our current PM and government are destroying all the great things I loved about being in Australia, I suppose to make Australia more 'successful' like the USA has done for those who already have all the things. I sure hope it doesn't go that way here, but it's getting rather bad. Not USA bad, but it's definitely a dark time for Australia. Our PM is an idiot and everything that comes out of his mouth is idiotic. People from both sides of the political spectrum seem to agree on that, so at least we agree on something.

Because a dingo ate my baby. :p No but really, it's an isolating place. It's very expensive to 'go home again' so I haven't ever been able to go home once. It's too hot and brown, and I haven't adjusted well culturally at all. I think Canada would be cooler, greener, and allow me to 'drive home' when I got really tired of socialised medicine and people being well looked after. Plus there's all kinds of candy product made from maple syrup there!

Yes, life for myself and my son is worlds better here in Australia than it would be in the USA. Having not been 'home' for 13 years, I have grass-is-greener issues and believe I have forgotten how hard it was to live there. I recently looked at moving home, and the more I tried to look into how we would survive there, the more it became obvious that we are very lucky to be here in Australia. I think my 'problems' here have been more because of the heat and sun (I have a chronic illness that Australia made happen fully as it can be triggered by UV) AND mainly because I have been an autistic on my own here since my relationship failed after my first two years here. I didn't get a lot of 'social' to understand the culture here, and spent so many years trying to learn the rules in the USA, but moved to another country where all the rules were different. It has been confusing for me. I'm trying though. I'm also trying to appreciate what we have.

I'm a lot further south in Thailand than you, Nola. Undiagnosed. I display a few characteristics that might possibly be labelled as autistic, but half suspect that the label aspie (or high-functioning ASD) probably doesn't really fit me, and it's a bit like a nickname I would prefer not to use for myself. I've had a few thoughts I might be ASDish since the seventies. But then I always defaulted to thinking of it as just life's normal depression. But a few things finally clicked into place just a few weeks back. Something has been wrong since I can remember, for sure.

What I would really like to know here is if anyone in Thailand has ever succeeded in getting a local medical person to diagnose adulthood ASD or similar? I think it may never happen for me. And I'm now too long out of the home country to get any real help there either. Indeed, I'm not sure 'help' would be much help either. I have definitely met young people with ASD here, and possibly a few adults too. I have contact online with one other person in Thailand who is also undiagnosed. We sort of live in hope that something might materialise, but can probably live without diagnosis if necessary. I have visited a local specialist, but ended up feeling that I had strayed onto a taboo subject. We just ended talking about what I probably didn' t have. But I think I'm expected to return, so I probably will - pushing the case much harder next time. I've already got a list about as long as an American election campaign! I won't bore you with the details, if you promise not to say anything positive about any of the protagonists in that turgid topic.

Hi all,

I started this thread 2 years ago, replied a few times and then wandered off chasing butterflies. I apologize for not answering some of your questions. Setting up my home/life here got very distracting, but I have nested now and am working on my MA online. It gives me about 3.5 minutes a day for a life, but I am happy to try to answer questions about life in Thailand if they are still out there. I've done every thing wrong, so there are some lessons there.

Wow didn't realize how many expat there were on here. I was just in Thailand for a month last month. Which I had seen this post then. Would have visited you. Right now I'm currently in Malaysia working at a hostel before I continue backpacking. How long do you plan on staying in Thailand for?
