I tend to keep away from unpleasant situations on WP because I mostly post to threads in Random Discussion, where people don't really discuss anything important. When I do get a sarcastic/unkind response (which seldom happens as people just don't pay attention to me), I just don't respond to it. Such people are not worth responding to. Probably that's the best way to avoid getting upset. It also feels good when you ignore mean people who try to provoke you.
I've tried ignoring them before, it never actually works, largely because they twist my words to make it seem like I said something I didn't say, and having dealt with a vast majority of people who don't bother reading my original post before, it makes me look like an ass, and makes the 'troll' look like they're making a valid point. As a rule, I tend to tell people to either quote my whole post or ignore it entirely, which these people ignore (latest issue).
It's pretty damn sad though, that members here think they can't talk about something serious just because of people who cause trouble. I'm guessing that's one reason people don't come here that much anymore as well.
