Bars are not exactly my hang-out place but I can tell you for a fact that most of Europe's history consisted of mostly populations that mostly struggled to produce food for themselves & survive, and most also did not know nor care about who their King or Queen or Prime-Minister or President was, for livelihoods prior to modern-day were too busy caring for your own local-community, and only after the advent of wide-spread newspapers & television did more & more of the world's population begin to accept the idea that they had some human-leader ruling over everyone (before then, ask most people who their king was, and they wouldn't have a clue, nor did they care who such a person was [politics still existed but did not have nearly as much influence over a whole entire country or even the entire planet back then as it does now]).

Certainly getting in good with the ladies back then from centuries ago may have been easier, and people mostly worked together towards common goals & objectives (peasant-classes anyway), allowing you to be able to offer help or have a lady without a partner help you get your work done, thus allowing you to be able to spend much time together, and if you have a lady that's willing to show up & join you every day in order to help get your work done, eventually you are good to go with her, particularly if you have reason to go on long, epic journeys, traveling around long distance, and she is still willing to accompany you, relationships back during those days occurred more often in this manner.
