LittleLu, what does demisexual mean?

Demisexuals only develop a physical attraction to a person after successfully establishing a close relationship with them. In other words, I am not easily turned on by people unless I've had a chance to fully get to know them. ^-^

I was never aware there was a term for this.

That would be so impressive. Theoretically I'd love to hike the AT. It's just sooo long. But it was a fantasy obsession of mine for like a year and a half. I really hope you can.

You could do it.

I mean, you'd have to carry your razor.

hehe. Yeah if I were hiking that long... theres no shaving of any kind. There's a small part of the AT not too far from me. Maybe this fall I was thinking about doing a day or two hike and trying to get part of the NJ section done. It can be don in three days I think if you're good which is like 9 for me.

I was 37 in 1998, when I got my license.

That's impressive--you were 16, Screen Name! I was scared to use the gas pedal at 16!

I would enjoy hiking the Appalachian Trail, too! A portion of it is about 40 miles north of NYC. Of course I want to do the whole thing from Georgia to Maine!

I hope you will succeed--in even sooner than five years. I went from totally sedentary (185 lbs at 5 foot 4.75) to runing the NYC Marathon in about 18 months--from 1994 to 1995.

That's awesome! I'm in a very similar situation right now and I'm trying to get in shape. I get discouraged thinking how long it will take. But that's seriously impressive.

Just take it one day at a time, Beaky. Are you able to walk for 30 minutes at a normal walking pace?

I'm 185 lbs again....but I walk about 20 miles a week at 4 miles per hour. I want to shoot for the Marathon again. I'll have to test my knees by running at least 6 mph. Ive had arthroscopic surgery on both knees. In my marathon days, I was running that distance at about 8 mph.

Kraftiekortie, to be fair, I should NOT have passed my exam. I went 3 months after my birthday one day when my mother was out of town (she said I wasn't ready...and I wasn't). I wasn't afraid to do it though.

...but I popped a curb leaving the DMV, ran a red light, and my 3-point turn had like 10 points... The only reason I could come up with for how I passed was that I am female and my parents are wealthy. Not at all fair, but that's how it happened. (And then I totaled my parents' car shortly thereafter...)

Thanks for the encouragement for the AT! 5 years isn't how long I'm giving myself to get ready, it's that I am taking my whole family and I want my kids to be older. I'll pull them from school and "homeschool" them on the trail. ...they'll learn more there than they would in school anyway (and the typical timeframe for hiking it runs through the summer). My goal is to do it right before my oldest enters high school.

I once had a coworker willing to come with me and try to persuade the school to make it school-sponsored somehow. (Invite any families to join us?) But, that coworker left. That idea still sound neat, though... And it could help me preserve my job...

If you ever want to have a discussion on this topic I'd be more than happy to oblige. I have been a very strict Christian at times of my life, and can also identify with agnostic and athietsic leanings to some extent. I love discussing this concept with people who truly have an open mind of understanding, and not to "convert" them because I don't really identify as actively Christian in any way. It annoys me when people say those of faith are dumb. Because some very intelligent people have faith. And some very dumb ones do not.
I'm probably one of the few people who can discuss this form a place of experience and some knowledge without leaning too hard to either direction, though I certainly believe in a higher power for sure.

Oh yeah I'm way past that. Once I get going, from times in the past I've tried, I can get pretty active pretty quick. I actually hiked about 7-8 miles over 4 hours this afternoon. At least 3-4 of those miles were actually AT miles. This conversation sort of inspired me when I woke up today with nothing to do, so I drove up to Worthington State Forest and hiked up there.

I do have a very fierce determination once I get it activated. Getting to where I care enough is always the issue.

I think I want to try doing a few days/nights hiking the NJ part of the AT. I know people do that all of the time. I think there's about 30 something miles of the AT in northern NJ. I seen people today, not sure if they were thru hikers or just doing shorter runs, but they had all their gear and were camped out along the trail because went pretty early.

I live in arizona where its normally 100+ degrees in the summer. I am told by my doctor that I am not overweight and that I am near exact where I need to be at my age. but, I have moobs (man boobs) so I panic a lot and try to workout more to get rid of them. I am not very strong, but I make up for it in size. so most people just assume I am dangerous, it doesn't make me feel any better when my moobs jiggle... I wish I didn't have moobs. I am not even overweight... just not having muscle makes them jiggle...
