As for that fighting game reference:
When a coin-operated fighting game has a second player coming in,
the usual phrase that appears on the screen is "A new challenger
approaches" or words to that effect.
On another topic, hmmm...I don't live in the UK so I can't tell
you much about local game shows out there.
