Wow, just when I think I've recieved all the excellent advice I could, you come along with even more valuable advice and insight, LeKiwi! Thank you so very much for everything you said. Your humor (and self description!) reminds me of my son!

After this past week of hearing from all of you and reading some of OASIS's book, I realize Asperger is not at all something to fear. You all have confirmed what I intinctively knew from my son: Aspeger simply describes a person who is amazing in so many ways (articulate, funny, full of insight, curious, intense, and sensitive - whether or not it can be expressed), but just needs coaching with getting along in mainsteam.

You guys are amazing here! I will spend some more time reading all the posts and absorbing all the info I can - and I will definitely come to you for advice and guidance as needed.

Thanks for all the help, you all are gems!

Not a problem. :)

If it helps, I moved to the other side of the world on my own without any plans on my 19th birthday... a big step for anyone, let alone someone with AS!! We can do anything we put our minds to - AS doesn't have to be scary and it doesn't have to be a negative thing at all, and don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. I'm so thankful for it and all the challenges it's presented and no doubt will continue to present. As my mother put it yesterday, 'Asperger's builds strong people'. You have to be tough to deal with it fully, and that can only be a good thing.

I consider it to be just one facet of the sparkling diamond that is my personality... ;)
