er... i'm guessing that is also from 3 stooges? i don't know it, but here you will find people that respond appropriately to questions like, "i'm sawing a saw with a saw, see?"

and instead of huh? grunts and blank stares, you will get people who thoughtfully comtemplate the logistics of saw sawing and if both saws would be affected or if you could cut one in half without damaging the other... and is 4 halves of 2 saws better than no halves of 2 wholes... and so on.

be careful of conveying ideas without labels, because you might then be incorrectly labeled and confused with will ferrel or something. unless, you actually are will ferrel, because then i suppose it would work out ok.

hrmmm...well since i'm not Will Ferrell and i too find it aggravating when others aren't specific i felt there was a need to correct it...Let alone other possible implications.

(My original reasoning for e instead of a had to do with search engine results, but only truly reasonable individuals would use that search question anyway...In other words,i've always assumed that everybody else knew the things i know.Which is still something i tend overlook.)

In the case of sawing saws with saws, the relative hardness of the metal in the saws would determine which could cut through the other... But then I thought I was the only person in the world who would consider something like that. 8O

well, welcome to the Special Bus.
(i've already called shotgun, which in this case IS actually a shotgun)

and yes, but what if the saws are equal? same make, model, and lot number and all that. and does the angle make a difference? because i can cut through my own fingernail with another one of my own fingernails, but only if the angle is right. and sometimes both fingernails end up cut.

The other limiting factor would be the type of saw... a hack saw can cut through metal because it's a thin band of metal with tension on the blade. Force applied over a small area and all that. So yeah. Welcome to the special bus indeed.

I don't think the properties of the saw matter all that much, it's all about orientation: which saw you saw sawing. If one saw is moving (relative to the other saw) parallel to the orientation of its teeth then it will be the one doing the sawing even if the sawing saw is a worn out old wood saw and the sawed saw is a brand new metal cutting hack saw. saw.

Imagine dragging a sawblade sideways across a piece of wood to see my point; Or looking at the saw microscopically as giant hooks ripping out chunks of metal as they are dragged over it.
