I have a strange habit of constantly walking into spiderwebs. Now and then there's still a spider on it, as well as remains of its dinner... I guess I shouldn't keep going into dark corners to explore, because that's probably where spiders hang out.

It's always boggled my mind how people are so terrified of insects and spiders. They're annoying, yes. And sort of icky. But they're mostly harmless! I remember once when I was a Freshman in High School and we had to write this "Bio Poem" thingy in which we would mention our likes, dislikes, and fears, half of the damned class was afraid of bugs, yet when I wrote that I was afraid of dogs, they mostly laughed. It's the pinnacle of insanity. A dog can tear you to pieces. What can an insect do?

As for me, I'd rather have a harmless little spider sitting in the upper corner of my room than an annoying fly or gnat zoom into my face every five minutes.

I'm alright with spiders as long as they don't run up my legs or over me or anything - unless there's a redback, which has happenned, that's when I take multiple steps backward and keep going. I'm more prone to freaking out about bugs and spiders and things that run around now then I was when I was younger. I used to have a pet Huntsman spider which lived in the corner of my roof above my bed when I was about 4. But now I'll mainly just jump and get scared by a spider because of its movement rather than anything else. Actually, my friends have bought me many spider toys.. I won't describe them for everyone scared of spiders, my friends freak out too.
And for the record, the spider pic <<< has nothing to do with a love of spiders...

AHHHHHHH!! ! 8O

Huntsman spiders terrify me! Once my mum and my aunt put a huge plastic toy spider that was about the size of one on my bed. I opened the door to the room, saw it, and a second later I was running down the hall. I didn't get a good look at it, so I thought it was real. I shouted 'There's a Huntsman on my bed!' My mum, aunt, uncle, and nana were like 'Why don't you go kill it then?' I asked them to do it for me, but they said they wouldn't. I started crying, and then they all laughed and told me it was a joke.

I'm horrified by spiders. They repulse and disturb me on some basic level.
Just seeing them on the TV freaks me out. Especially tarantulas.
I don't wish them harm and would prefer to be able to put them outside if they get in the house, but I'm too disturbed.

Insects don't bother me though.

When I first started seeing your avatar I had to keep scrolling down to get it off the screen. Eep. I'm a bit better about it now. :P

I know someone who purposely keeps the spiders in his house alive so that they can eat the flies and gnats that come in.

I do that too, as long as it's not a black widow (I get those in the house sometimes), the spider in the web is live, and the web isn't old and dirty. I had an old family friend that used to do the same thing, but they were on a ranch, so that was considered more socially acceptable.

A few months ago, I walked off the edge of the front porch, and walked into this giant, super sticky, invisible web. It was really hot that night and I didn't have a shirt on so that addede to the sensation. I had something like a panic attack and rushede over to the full length mirror to see if the spider was on me, but it wasn't. I grabbed a flashlight and found a black widow on the ground wher the web had been. I was at about knee level and 6" to my right when I waked through the web. I wasn't the biggest one I've ever seen, but it was still big. I figure the web was roughly triangular and about 8' tall by 7' wide. I was picking bits of spider web out of my hair for a couple of days because it wouldn't wash out very easy.

I live in a big house that's a century old and divided into apartments. As with most old houses, this one seems to be a united nations for insects and arachnids so seeing spiders is something I've had to get used to. I don't mind spiders as long as they're not the poisonous variety (brown recluses, black widows) and since they catch the other insects that make their way in my apartment, I just let 'em be.

I'd like to have a pet tarantula since they're low maintanance and make little mess. However, my landlord doesn't even allow tenants to have goldfish much less exotic animals on the premises.

I'm terrified of spiders, but fascinated by them, too. I like reading about them, although brown recluse stories always give me the chills.
I also found out recently that some people keep black widows as pets. I am not joking. You can even order one online. I don't see how it's legal, but apparently for $25 plus shipping & handling, you can have your own lethal little companion. I really don't understand WHY someone would want such a pet, but I'm not going to be the one who has to explain the situation to the ER doctor when little Fifi gets loose and turns on her captors.

And no, the site I found this on is not a joke. The world gets more puzzling every day.
