hi - undiagnosed aspie, pretty sure.
Another West Michigander =) Welcome (I'm not being a stalker or anything, I just noticed in the other thread).
Idunno about getting a diagnosis, but I found that just knowing about autism/AS helped me learn a lot more about myself, and how to better myself (a little bit, at least). But I could understand, if you were already (mis?)diagnosed with other things, you'd probably want to try to get the record set straight.

I too was misdiagnosed with something else, and wanted a proper diagnosis in order to correct the mistake (even though I'm intrinsically opposed, as I don't think AS should be medicalised, I think it should be accepted as part of humanity's natural neurodiversity).
As well as setting the record straight, as someone else commented, I think there is also an element of how can you accept and understand yourself when the 'official line' on who and what you are is wrong.
Even though I *knew* I was Aspie for at least a decade before a formal diagnosis, getting the formal diagnosis enabled me to 'come out of the closet' to more people, and to be more accepting of who I am.
