KingChaosNinja, i like your signature. I have a similar philosophy, only here's my version (Bec should know what this means...)

"The next person who says they know more about my problems than i do who doesn't have a PhD will find out for themselves what Avada Kedavra means. The same goes for those who compare me to 'Rainman'."

I actually said something similar in a social skills group today, and got in trouble for it.

What is your first name? Eric

Age: 33

Location: Dallas, TX, USA

Hobbies and Interests: Mathematics, Numerics, Computational optimization, ... so many other things I'll dither to say

Why are you here? diagnosed Asperger's Syndrome and a preoccupation with machines. And it's pretty bad. Both of them.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): ca. 2002

Favorite subjects: Mathematics, Physics

Year/Grade: What ?!??! Are you serious ?!?!? I'm a Ph.D. candidate in Mathematics

Favorite music: Heavy, pissed off, and with a point. All those thrashing-about whiny-assed be-tatooed little mealworms can suck it.

Books: The entire oeuvre of Neil Stephenson. Ditto: Frank Herbert. Less so: Asimov, Greg Bear, and others

TV shows/Movies: Spooks. (That's saying much since I don't own a TV.)

Instrument: Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Contrabass Clarinet, Bass flute (yes, there is such a thing), piano, a little bit of voice, symphonic percussion, some instrumental composition

Do you like sports? If so, which ones?: I play basketball. I like hockey, rugby, jai alai, racquetball, handball. I also play 1 or 2 of those.

Family: Mom. She's super awesome. Younger half-brother who's probably insane, older uncle who's known to be insane.

Clothing: Mostly casual. I almost never buy clothes, yet I always have something that functions.

How did you find this website? /.

Job: Was a SW developer/numerical engineer. I am now a securities trader. And of course, I do some token BS work at school for my Ph.D. requirements.

Plans for the future? I want to do porn, but only with hot chicks.... Seriously, some stuff that might take a few paras to explain.

Any comments? We'll see what happens. This website might suck.... I'm the one who will be last into the bright light of mass attention, but I'll damned well make everything function right when no one's looking... Hell, that's where the real power is anyway, if you're into that sort of thing.

Favorite subjects: Physics, Mathematics, Drafting, Programming, GIS.

Year/Grade: Physics Degree, Geomatics Diploma.

Books: Pressfield, Ford, Iggulden, Lawhead, etc. Greek, Roman & Medieval battle stuff. Any suggestions?

Do you like sports? If so, which ones?: Rodeo - saddle bronc.

Family: 1 brother w/o AS.

Clothing: Denim & leather.

How did you find this website? Searching for AS on Yahoo!

What is your first name?

MC

Age: 48

Location: FL

Hobbies and Interests: Internet, reading, writing, video games, making webpages, anime.

Why are you here? AS with comorbid included

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): as an adult

Favorite subjects: Humanities, theater, art

Year/Grade: Some college

Favorite music: I like many types of music except for country, rap, and heavy bass.

Books: Lord of the Flies, Man's Search for Meaning, anything suspense, mystery, sci-fi.

TV shows/Movies: Discovery Channel, Survivor, Monk, Charmed, Angel, just about anything anime (well I'm less partial to the giant bot type of anime)

Instrument: Alto Sax, Clarinet, Flute, Guitar, and crappy Violin skills

Do you like sports? If so, which ones?: I dislike group sports. They breed animosity and teach others base behaviors such as being exclusionary to the less able persons who might try. On the other hand I like singular sports that challenge an individual, i.e. swimming, rock climbing, biking.

Family: Yes of course, a large family and I have a daughter as well.

Clothing: Blue jeans, t-shirt, white socks, sneakers.

How did you find this website? I was researching a large group of listings that covered Asperger Syndrome. This was in the search engine and so I I looked into this site.

Job: Disabled (former jobs: warehouse, architectural design and drafting, phone installations, typist, fast foods *fast foods are not something anyone should want as a career*, store clerk *another bad career for someone with AS*, farm animal husbandry and breeding.

Plans for the future?

The future is too far away for me. I might speculate but never plan my future. Beside this I'm getting old, I'm almost a half a century so how much future could I possibly expect.

Any comments?

I have plenty of comments for many subjects all the time. As for a current comment about this post I would say I enjoyed filling it out, it gave me a wedge into writing on the forums in a less obvious way and allowed me to see what others here are interested in and such.

Age: 26

Location: Los Banos, CA

Hobbies: Reading atlases and other maps.

Why am I here? Because I see that there are other aspies out there in the cyberworld who want to communicate, so I said to myself "Why not give it a try?"

When was I diagnosed: 1994, at age 15

Favorite subjects: Geography, and a little bit of history.

Favorite music: At this moment, rock music from the 60s, 70s, and even the 80s. (I don't care too much for today's music)

Books: I don't read books, they make me sleep and I lose concentration

TV Shows: The Simpson's (earlier seasons), Family Guy (started getting into it), Late Night with Conan O'Brien

Favorite Instruments: Pianos and Keyboards.

Sports: Yeah, I like sports and I have no favorite since I get bored of them easily. I did like hockey for a while until I got bored with it, baseball puts me to sleep, football can be slow, and basketball lost its game.

Family: My siblings have moved out, but I still live with my folks cause I am still unable to be on my own even though I would really like to. My gramma lives with us too which is good.

Clothing: polo shirts, buttoned neck T-shirts, trousers and dockers, black socks. Don't forget, steel-framed glasses with a sunshade clip when it's too bright outside.

How I found this site: Through Wikipedia (the online encyclopedia) I was looking up Aspergers Syndrome and I clicked the link to here.

Jobs: None. I did tutor math for a while after graduating from HS, but I don't think I did good enough in my words. I would like to help with autistic kids and adolescents if I could find a place available.

Year/Grade: Graduated HS in '97, tried going to Comm. college but it is too hard to socialize, and it kind of affects me gradewise.

Future Plans: I have none, not even present time agendas, but I would like to as I said earlier, help other autistics, especially youth.

I think I might have done this when I first arrived on the site, but just in case I didn't....

What is your first name? Chris or Christopher, but NEVER Topher or Christ.

Age: 39.

Location: Vancouver, Canada

Hobbies and Interests: Aviation, cartography, computers

Why are you here? Isn't that the eternal question? As far as this site goes, I'm here because when I found out about AS I was surfing the web from link to link looking for answers and found this one by accident. I like the style and sense of community, so I stayed. It's now a second home. In the larger "why are we here?" sense, I'm often amazed at the chains of events that sometimes happen. I never saw the movie "Butterfly Effect", but after my perseverances directly contributed to the saving of 4 lives I lost any incentive to imagine how my life would have been different without AS.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I self-diagnosed with AS in February of this year. On May 10th (just 4 short days ago) a psychologist diagnosed AS + ADHD + depression.

Favorite subjects: Geography, Physics, Math

Year/Grade: Graduated high school in 1983.

Favorite music: Techno, Pop, Classical. I'll listen to almost anything but rap.

Books: I like spy/military fiction from people like Clancy and Ludlum. Other than that, I have shelves full of references and tutorials on everything from computer languages to carpentry, sociology to business management.

TV shows/Movies: I enjoyed movies much more back in the 80's. Top Gun, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc.

Instrument: I've played ukulele, recorder, piano and trumpet, and sang in a choir. I haven't done ANY of these since the late 70's.

Do you like sports? If so, which ones?: I sometimes watch curling. Other than that, I generally hate all forms of sports and therefore neither play nor watch.

Family: My mother and younger brother are both undiagnosed but apparently affected by AS to some degree. I don't know about my father - our relationship is friendly but distant.

Clothing: I am stuck in the 80's to some degree.

How did you find this website? Surfing from place to place.

Job: I work for a major company in the aviation business. My time is split between "operations" and "system requirements". In the operations role, I coordinate the use, management and maintenance of several computer networks including a multi-site WAN and other industry-specific hardware. In the system-requirements role I do a lot of computer-based cartography work (using software I designed and wrote myself) and also participate in the design of new industry-specific operational hardware and software.

Plans for the future? My employer has been hounding me for years to either enter management or relocate to the skunk-works and lead one of the development teams. I'm trying to avoid either for now because I like where I'm living and what I'm doing.

Any comments? Discovering AS explained a lot of things about my childhood and early adulthood. I am very thankful to have found this site. The people here have really changed my life. I think everyone who feels the same as I do (and can afford it) should send some money to Alexander so that this site can prosper and grow.
