Any comments?

Well, I've been lurking awhile and finally started posting stuffs so maybe I should actually say hi!

What is your first name? Nina

Age: A month off 24.

Location: Nottingham, England.

Hobbies and Interests: Reading, writing, learning new stuff, tormenting my dog.

Why are you here? I have suspected I have Aspergers since I was about seventeen, and now I actually live with someone who also probably has it I have both the support and the privacy to look into it.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I haven't been diagnosed yet but I start seeing a psychologist next month and in my assesment they definately suspected it from the things they were asking me.

Favorite subjects: Not in any kind of learning establishment any more but I always excellent at any kind of English and certain parts of History and Sciences. I also love anything to do with Psychology and Philosophy.

Year/Grade: None.

Favorite music: Ohhhh so much. I love classical and I like Eminem and Emilie Autumn and Coldplay and Muse and all the links in between! I adore Tori Amos.

Books: Far too many to mention them all but Knowledge of Angels and Sophie's World get special mention. I also love a lot of sci-fi and fantasy stuff.

TV shows/Movies: I'm big into fandom and a bit of an elitist about it. My main fandoms are - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel the series, Supernatural, Dexter, House MD, Heroes, Dollhouse, Firefly, X-Men (various comics, the films and the X-Men Evo cartoon), various anime and manga especially Loveless, love Cadfael and The Tudors (very into Tudor history) and I am a little into the Harry Potter fandom - I can take or leave the books and films but I love the world, mostly because I adore Snape and Sirius Black and I think Lupin is probably one of the best characters ever written. Ahem. Anyway. Yes, I like a wide variety of things there!!

Instrument: I have played guitar since I was 11 but am not very good at it. I am self-taught in piano/keyboard and I seem to have a natural affinity with it... I'm not exactly a prodigy but I feel the music in it, y'know?

Do you like sports? I used to love running, hiking, camping, playing tennis, windsurfing - I was very active. However, due to the doctors not listening to me my entire life and deciding I was a hypochondriac, as of early this year I am now pretty much bedridden and have to have a full-time carer - I get out a bit in a wheelchair but it's incredibly painful and exhausting for me. I have Fibromyalgia. Also, of course, because it takes so much effort just to be upright every day, I have nothing left to hide and work around all the traits that I suspect to be Aspergers now, so it's getting a lot more pronounced. Especially since I am now away from my family too.

Family: Preferably not. I have alot of issues with them.

Clothing: Whatever is comfortable. I like paganish, bohemian type stuff a lot too but am unable to wear them as much as I used to. A hate fashion and never follow it. I was very annoyed when everyone suddenly started wearing ponchos. Grrr. They were MY thing.

How did you find this website? I think it was through a search for Aspergers forums but it's been a while - I've been lurking for ages!

Job: Just lost it due to 'medical reasons.' Have been trying to get benefits since June but the government are messing me around a lot so I'm a bit screwed at the moment. *eyeroll*

Plans for the future? Learn to manage my illnesses and disorders and try to be able to function again.

Any comments? Due to my Fibro I often get very fuzzy and incoherent so if my grammar and/or spelling suddenly turn terrible for a few hours here and there that's why - and apologies to anyone who had trouble reading it. I will try not to post when I'm fuzzy but I don't always know.

What is your first name? Ken

Age: 51

Location: North Florida

Hobbies and Interests: Playing music; collecting and cataloguing music; recording technology; restoring old recordings from vinyl and tape; making people laugh; my wife

Why are you here? I think I've found a place where I'm like the other people. I want to learn, and understand, and find out how do deal with people who can't.

When were you diagnosed? 1964, before it was called Asperger's.

Favorite subjects: The Beatles; the history of the recording medium.

Year/Grade: it was the '70s. Who can remember?

Favorite music: I have over 300,000 songs from the first recorded sound to the late 1980s at my disposal. I couldn't possibly pick favorites, although my "period" is 1947-1987. Rock music, pop music, the blues. I can't identify with current music.

Books: I read information, but have little or no interest in fiction.

TV shows/Movies: the things I see most often are HGTV and the Food Network. It's what we watch during dinner. Otherwise, I don't watch TV. I went 16 years without a TV, and it apparently cured me. I work across the hall from a TV station. I don't even know what channel it is.

Instrument: Piano, electronic keyboards, drums, bass, guitars (acoustic and electric)

Do you like sports? No. I've never understood the concept.

Family: Estranged. Not just me, all of 'em. They're all estranged from one another. I come from some pretty strange people. My parents are deceased. I have cousins I haven't seen in decades. They're grandparents now; I've never met their wives or kids or been in their houses. The last time I saw any of my relatives was at my mother's funeral in 1996. I don't expect to ever see any of them again (of course, the fact that I now live a border and 1500 miles from my nearest relative plays a large part in that). My wife and I are not having children... it's too terrifying to even contemplate. I hope I find an appropriate forum to tell you how I met my wife and came to be married. It's a great, happy story!

Clothing: Jeans and a polo shirt, or a T-shirt usually (no logos or pictures). Black sneakers.

How did you find this website? Re-reading the Wikipedia page on Asperger's.

Job: Radio announcer, engineer, producer.

Plans for the future? To survive the management at my workplace long enough to retire with a pension. 12 years to go!

Any comments? Thanks for having me. I come to learn.

What is your first name? Robert, shortened to Bob due to reason's beyond me. Never "Bobby" because that's always annoyed me.

Age: 29, inching closer to 30 (May).

Location: Florida.

Hobbies and Interests: Drawing (self taught), reading (mostly fiction), coffee, tattoo'ing, meditation, music, video games, and numerous eclectic topics.

Why are you here? Surprisingly, I've found it easier to talk to my computer then real people. This is the first active forum I've found that is populated with actual Aspies rather then NT's that happen to "know" someone with Autism. Quite a difference.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I think around the age of 7-8, my child hood's a blur but that sounds about right.

Favorite subjects: Art.

Year/Grade: Graduated high school, planned on college but life got in the way. Still planning though.

Favorite music: Almost everything a decade old, obscure metal bands, and angry european rock.

Books: Lately I've been on a Jim Butcher kick with the Dresdan file series, it's hard to keep track because I hit the library about once a week. Bookstores will pull me in like a magnet and I can browse for hours.

TV shows/Movies: I don't watch Tv anymore ever since the internet became my best friend. Movies... the Lord of the Ring trilogy since it spares me from the elves singing constantly.

Instrument: Piano, although I can't play anything I wouldn't mind learning some time.

Do you like sports? No, I've the habit of tripping over flat surfaces sometimes so sports were one of my biggest fears growing up.

Family: Married to a NT, two children - one with severe autism, the other one possibly attention defeciant disorder.

Clothing: Um. Yes? I prefer pants over shorts, and refuse to wear jeans because the material drives me nuts.

How did you find this website? Surfing.

Job: Nurses aid, night shift so the contact with other people is at a minium.

Plans for the future? Attempting to overcome my social problems by interacting with other people more. Trying not to forget the few friends I have really don't mind hearing from me more then once in a blue moon.

Any comments? Glad I found this site and thanks for reading.

What is your first name? James

Age: 42

Location: Vancouver, BC

Hobbies and Interests: Role playing games (mostly tabletop), reading, cooking, sailing and theatre

Why are you here? I am keen to learn from and get to know other Aspies.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): 2003

Favorite subjects: Math. (Esp. Number Theory and Modern Algebras)

Year/Grade: I have a B.Sc. in pure math and a degree in law.

Favorite music: Baroque.

Books: Anything printed. When I was a kid the fights were never about bedtime, they were about light's out. I will read the dictionary if deprived of anything else.

TV shows/Movies: Rome, The West Wing, Rick Mercer Report. I don't have cable anymore, so I don't watch much TV. My favourite movie of all time is The Lion in Winter

Instrument: Voice and Bb Clarinet

Do you like sports? Not really. I like curling, and sometimes watch hockey.

Family: Two parents  , one older brother (5 yrs), all NT. I have been in a relationship with my same-sex partner for almost 19 years.

Clothing: Yes.

How did you find this website? I googled "Gay Aspergers Vancouver" and this site was high on the hit list

Job: Negotiator

Plans for the future? Living and learning

Any comments? I am feeling really good about finding this site.

What is your first name? Tessa

Age: 24

Location: Preston, Lancashire, England

Hobbies and Interests: Reading, Role-play games, both Table-top and LARP, watching films, playing computer games

Why are you here? my friend Phillip recommended this site to me.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): When I was about 16. I don't remember specifically, but I know it was around the time I was doing my GCSE's

Favorite subjects: I don't really have any anymore. I used to be into languages, but my uni course put me off them. I like cooking and baking though.

Year/Grade: I completed school many years ago

Favorite music: i like many kinds, from classical, to rock and metal, to gothic, to movie themes and soundtracks, all the way to new-age music like Enya, Era and Medwyn Goodall

Books: Can't go wrong with the Discworld series, but I read many genres. I'm collecting the Sabrina the Teenage Witch books as well though. I'm getting quite a decent collection.

TV shows/Movies: Buffy the vampire Slayer and Sabrina the Teenage Witch mostly. I can't say I have any major favorite films and TV shows as many of them have their merits.

Instrument: i can play piano, the penny whistle and recorder quite well, although it's been years since I learned them. I used to be able to play the violin, and i'm hoping if I pick one up again I still will be able to play them. I've gone through bouts of teaching myself to play the flute and the guitar, but that's slow going.

Do you like sports? not really. I'm a fan of Archery and i used to love hockey, but unless LARP (Live-action Role play) counts as a sport, i'm not the hugest fan.

Family: Got a father and mother, who have been divorced for many years, a Step-mum, and an older sister

Clothing: i try and flit between gothic and casual, but depends on what mood I'm in.

How did you find this website? my friend, who i mentioned before, told me the address

Job: currently I'm unemployed

Plans for the future? I'd like to be a proof reader, or an author ideally. Long term plans way down the line is to be a crazy cat lady when I'm old and grey though.

Any comments? If Phillip, who I know from Oxfam Bookshop, could please reply to this or send me a private message so I know who you are on here, I'd be very grateful

What is your first name? I would, really, but I'm paranoid about people knowing me or tracking me down.

Age: 18

Location: London

Hobbies and Interests: Reading, drawing, ballet,

Why are you here? With possible AS, to me this forum feels like home. Somewhere I can be myself and not feel on the "outside", if you know what I mean.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):

Favorite subjects: Art, Physics

Year/Grade: 6th form college

Favorite music: Radiohead, Muse, The Cure, Fall Out Boy, The Dresden Dolls and lots of bits and bobs.

Books: My top three at the moment - Brave New World, 1984, The Picture of Dorian Gray

TV shows/Movies: Futurama, Scrubs, NCIS, Top Gear, The Big Bang Theory,

Instrument: Learning the piano. By learning I mean I bought the thing and haven't got round to doing anything with it yet.

Do you like sports? Some of them. I HATE team sports with a passion. I like things you can either do by yourself, like swimming, or one-on-one, like badminton.

Family: A Pa and Younger sister, who I live with. A Ma, who lives elsewhere.

Clothing: Oh dear. Fashion is not for me. Two pairs of jeans that I live in, and an assortment of tops that are either too big or too small. I tend to find a way of dressing and stick with it for a few years. I think people around me don't think I ever change my clothes.

How did you find this website? Looking up Asperger's Syndrome on Wikipedia.

Job: Nope.

Plans for the future? Uni, I hope. I expect I'll be studying physics, literature or Something arty.

Any comments? Nada
