Hobbies and Interests: music; singing, playing instruments (violin, cello, synthesizer), listening to music, dancing,
drawing, reading, writing, going for a walk, computer, animals

Why are you here? Because I was diagnosed with AS and I want to know more people like me

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): with 16 with Depression and Anxiety and 17 with AS

Favorite subjects: psychology, special needs educations, violin, cello, biology, animals

Year/Grade: I am in High school, 2nd Grade

Favorite music: pop, classic, hip hop rap, latin, ethno, rock, traditional. Now I mostly listen to pop.

Books: This is your brain on music, Ringing cedars of russia - anastasia...

TV shows/Movies: Parent trap, Mozart and the whale, August Rush, Discovery Channel, Discovery Investigation, Animal planet - mostly I like series Animal Cops, and many more...

Instrument: Violin, cello and piano

Do you like sports? No, I like to watch football but I am not playing it, I like rollerblading and playing volleyball (I can't play volleyball because I play violin and cello and I have to soft fingers to play it)

Family: I live with my parents, dog Asha and cats Mycky and Bea, and I have a sister which now lives with her own family. She does not have an ASD, and she is a special needs educator.

Clothing: casual.

I have been through a lifelong struggle with AS and hope to assist others.

1988 with HFA, later on with AS

Favorite music:
Classical: Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven

Books:
Anything by Garrison Keillor or about Midwestern life in general.

TV shows:
Don't watch much TV. I have really gotten into the TV show"Greensburg" on Planet Green. It doesn't help when you assisted a childhood friend, whom is a mayor of a small town that was decimated in a flood last year. Similar things, different disasters.

I probably listen to more NPR than watch TV.

Movies:
Hoosiers, Fargo, Stand by Me

Do you like sports?
Basketball, Hockey. I was goaded by my teachers in high school to be the manager of the basketball team. One of the best social experiences that I have ever experienced, plus we went to state two of the years that I was there.

Job:
Customer service for a nationally known fashion retailer.

Hobbies and Interests: Reading, listening to music, pencil & paper RPGs (lately, it's D&D 4th edition), travel (I don't like the travel part, but it can be worth it for the destination)

Why are you here? I guess you could say it's self-discovery, trying to learn and understand more.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Self-diagnosed about 1 month ago as having many Asperger's traits.

Favorite subjects: I always did well in school, but the subject I really loved in high school was Geometry. In college, I enjoyed Psych and Computer classes. I've always loved literature, but found that I'd rather just read it than study it in class.

Year/Grade: Bachelor's in Psychology, Master's in Computer Science

Favorite music: I love many different genres and eras of music. Top 5 desert island discs (in no particular order):
Ella Fitzgerald - "the Cole Porter Songbook" (vol. 1 and 2 if I'm allowed, otherwise just vol. 1)

Books: I'm a voracious reader. I especially like mysteries and in recent years I've become fascinated with evolution, particularly the "Selfish Gene" theory.

TV: Original Twilight Zone, Original Series Star Trek, Monty Python's Flying Circus, "Get Smart", "The Singing Detective", most Muppets stuff, "Doctor Who" (w/ Tom Baker), "Torchwood", "Top Gear".
Movies: too hard to choose a short list of specific movies. I like the Marx Brothers, Monty Python (except "Meaning of Life"), Film Noir (especially "The Big Sleep" with Bogart and Bacall), and in recent years I've become of fan of romantic comedies (e.g. "Two Weeks Notice"). There is enough sadness and struggle in life - I've come to appreciate happy endings in movies.

Instrument: I used to play drums (rock 'n' roll), but haven't in years.

Do you like sports? Not especially, though I watch professional (American) football sometimes.

How did you find this website? I was looking for more info on Autism and Asperger's and I stumbled on the "You Might Be an Aspie If" thread.

I have a relative whose son was recently diagnosed as high-functioning autistic. I was searching for more information and, to my surprise, began recognizing myself in descriptions of Asperger's traits. I'm aware of the tendency to self-diagnose (those of us who took Abnormal Psych feared we had every disorder in the book), but I don't find that I'm afraid I might be an Aspie. My reaction was more like "THIS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!! !"

I look forward to finishing the YMBAAI thread. (After all, I really should have finished it before posting this, but I'm giving myself a break since it's 1,917 posts long as of this writing.)

Finding this site was wonderful for me.
