What is your first name?
Bonkkers is all anyone's gonna get out of me. :X

Age:
17

Location:
Southern California.

Hobbies and Interests:
I've got a general interest in Psychology, but I love drawing--both on paper, and digitally. I'm not much of a painter, though--I like fiddling with concepts, but I don't put too much thought into technique. Also love over-analyzing literature, and.. well.. everything else, so long as I have the time for it.

Why are you here?
Just thought I should get involved in something.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
When I was about 8, I think.

Favorite subjects:
AP Lit's great, but I still miss APUSH. Teacher was so great. :(

Year/Grade:
Senior.

Favorite music:
No particular genre strikes my fancy, but lately been listening to some Auto-tuned Newscasts. If you've seen it, you'd know what I'm talking about.

Books:
East of Eden. If comics count, put me up for Watchmen too.

TV shows/Movies:
Stargate SG-1, Parks and Recreation, Dark Knight, UP

Instrument:
Ahhh, none. Never really learned to connect notes on paper to notes on hands.

Do you like sports?
Nah, not really. Horseback riding used to be fun though.

Family:
Pretty sweet. Dad, Momma, a big bro, and a dinky little Aussie terrier.

Clothing:
Anything that works, really. Trying to be more fashion conscious lately so I don't stand out. My hair's been tamed, sorta.

How did you find this website?
Wikipedia.

Job:
Nope, but I got one last summer working with kids at the local art-scene, so pretty proud of that. Gotta work on next year's summer plans, though.

Plans for the future?
College, hopefully at a particular UC. Looking to major in psychology.

Any comments?
Nopety-nope.

What is your first name?
smischmal or smisch will do fine (not my given name, but I picked this one, which I think makes it more 'real' in a certain way).

Age: 19

Location: Santa Rosa, CA

Hobbies and Interests: Anthropology, Architecture, Art, Astronomy, Biology, The Circus Arts, Computers, Engineering, Electroencephelophones, Mythology, Physics, Psychology, Reading Wikipedia, Theatre, Transhumanism, Video Games, Worldbuilding and of course robots.

Why are you here?
Why are any of us here? Evolution.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
no formal diagnosis, 'self diagnosed' Asperger Syndrome in mid 2009. I know that self diagnosis holds little value for some folks here but you know what, I put a lot of research into it, consulted parents and grandparents, and gathered considerable data before I was even willing to say that I probably have it. I figure that a couple of months of intense introspection on the topic is at least equal to a visit with a psychologist (which would cost money that I don't have).

Favorite subjects: Math, Physics, Ceramics (I assume that what was meant by this was school subjects.

Year/Grade: second year in junior college, transfering out in one more

Favorite music: The Dresden Dolls, The World, Inferno Friendship Society, Gogol Bordello, Basshunter, cornandbeans

Books: books on science and science fiction, especially Asimov's robot stories and The Singularity is Near by Ray Kurzweil

TV shows: The Big Bang Theory, Pushing Daisies, Futurama
Movies: Robots, Avatar, The Matrix, WALL-E, Accepted, Happy Feet, Sherlock Holmes

Do you like sports?
depends on the sports

Family: 1 mother, 1 father, 1 stepmother 3 extant grandfolks, 2 younger brothers.

Clothing: phat pants (comfiest pants ever!), shirts, top hat

How did you find this website?
while reading a blog by a sociopath I followed a link to a cafepress search for aspergers stuff and after seeing several WP t-shirts, I did a google search and found the forums.

Job(s): grocery store bagger and student

Plans for the future?
school and then I honestly have no idea

Any comments?
Have a nice life! Honestly, please do.

TV shows/Movies: Stargate SG1 and SGA, True Blood, Legend of the Seeker/Various foreign films, Avatar, I Love You, Man.

Instrument: I sing.

Do you like sports? I like watching sweaty rugged men play rugby and Trojan football, but that's it.

What is your first name? Brittany

Age: 29

Location: Indiana

Hobbies and Interests: I like being outdoors: play disc golf, ride horses, hike, bike. I love taking photos. I like to take road trips and watch movies, especially when I'm with my favorite person. I garden. I hand-make cards to send to people. I love learning. Cooking and eating...I love food.

Favorite subjects: Anthropology, Biology, Health (I'm a Master's candidate)

Favorite music: Slobberbone, Scott Miller and the Commonwealth, The Pogues, Born Again Floozies, Martin Sexton, Barenaked Ladies, They Might Be Giants, bluegrass...I can listen to almost anything besides certain types of rap, or things with a heavily repeating bass line (the sound puts me on edge!)

Books: Isabel Allende, John Irving, John Steinbeck, and Carl Hiaasen are some of my favorite writers. I've been reading a lot of books on sustainability and solar power lately.

TV shows/Movies: Best in Show, Wet Hot American Summer, High Fidelity, Role Models, Amelie, A Mighty Wind, and I loved Avatar and The Hangover recently.

Instrument: flute, sax, baritone, mellophone...although I seldom play anymore

Do you like sports? I am terribly uncoordinated. I enjoy going to games to watch people though.

Family: I live with my partner and our 2 cats and 1 dog. Then there's my big extended family, who lives out of state.

Clothing: It's winter, so being warm and dry gets sacrificed for looking cute! Usually jeans, skirts with tights and tall boots, sweaters, hoodies, tshirts.

How did you find this website? I don't remember. I think I googled "Aspergers singles"! haha

Job: health educator, nurse, mad scientist (for real!)

Plans for the future? Finish my MS in Health Education. Be happy. Pay off those cussed student loans. Travel. Get back into shape to run races.

Don't worry. I hope you'd been happy that Pennsylvania produced champions in baseball in 2008, then football and ice hockey. :) Oh yes, did I add that Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant also came from Philly? :D Good, Pennsylvania is the state of champions!

And you will eventually find an area of interest. And I think autism is a gift, it's ok if we get diagnosed late, because at least we are given more opportunities in life in our future to reflect what we can do to better ourselves in life. Just chill, you'll just do fine. We will all be good!

What is your first name? Leah

Age: 19

Location: Doylestown PA

Hobbies and Interests: Organic farming, History (espically ancient egyptian and roman) Theater and comedy

Why are you here? I found a obivious community at school, Delaware Valley College) including a cofusion with why I can go to college if I do have aspbuirgers from professors, babying from friends when they find out, unhelpful special ed support staff, and just a general lack of understanding from everyone around me. How do I educate without lowering ,myself in the eyes of the community becouse of the negative stigma attached to the word autism and aspie

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Several therapists have tried to diagnose me since i was eight but my parents resused so I was diagnosed after I had the abilty to eject my parents from the session at sixteen

Favorite subjects: I prefure self discovery, I find that convetional learning focuses on rote memorzation and way of thinking that I just can't understand no matter how hard I try (and I have been trying for 14 years)

Year/Grade: softomore in college

Favorite music: broadway!

Books: Harry Potter, at 19 it may sound a bit babyish but it taught me to read at age eight and now I an writing my own book I grew up waiting for the next book.

TV shows/Movies: Get smart, Bones (she reminds me of me), the daily show

Instrument: Flute( very badly, I don't have a good enough memory for remebering the keys fast enough or reading music)

Do you like sports? I am a Ice skater and just joined the equestian vaulting team at school (gymnasitc on horse back, yes I am crazy why do you ask?)

Family: both parents still married, my father also as aspre he was diagnosed after me and one annoying little brother who is the exact oposite of me in every way possible

Clothing: anything comfortable and non-revialing but ocassonally I like to suprise everyone and dress up

How did you find this website? google

Job: college and volenteer at a educational farm

Plans for the future? Get published (I have an over active imagiation that is hard to explain I just want to show everyone what has been in my mind for the past 19 years and show where I have been instead at school, or listening to them instead of being written off as a loon) There is nothing more I would like to do than wake at 6 every morning and working with farm animals all day ( the changing of the season are predictable yet intersesting and calming in a world where everything is either to fast or too boring)

Any comments?
I would love to hear suggestions about how to educate the College community on aspre

Hi Leah! It's nice to see a new user from Pennsylvania, the cradle of champions from Joe Namath to Kobe Bryant to the championship teams of the Penguins, Steelers and Phillies (though Pirates and Sixers had been major letdowns)

Don't worry Leah, I believe you can find ample help from our fellow supportive members. Personally, I am open to PMs and emails... Just click on the small bubbles below my posts if you see any, yeah. You may also do the same for other users too.

It's good that you've an interest in fantasy stories like Harry Potter. It is an interesting series of books, so do not worry it is kiddish...

I see that you're an aspiring farmer. I long to visit your farm when I have the resources to go up to Pennsylvania and taste the food from the crops you'd grown,, haha.

As for the College community, there is a thread that I always frequent called 'School and College Life', you may start specific threads there by clicking on 'New Topic'. Just tell us your problems and wait for responses. And in addition, this is a general advice I would give to college students:

- Never, ever give up!

Yup, life may be hard, especially college material --- It is really many times harder than what we see in high school, more intensive and work moves on at a faster pace. But we have to find our interests as soon as we can, and work intensively on it. It's possible, just tell yourself that you can do it. Why not, I know of many Aspies personally who had graduated from college or are graduating soon --- some in America, a handful from Canada and one in Singapore (my home country). :)

And also another nugget I'd like to share:

Take charge of what we learn, no matter what they are.

As long as we like learning, we will enjoy what we learn and naturally, we can get more things from our life as well as from information.

Good luck, have fun in WP. :D
