Thank you for posting these excellent articles. I loved them and will be passing them on to my NT family and friends.

(not to go off topic but...)
Honestly I don't know why people insist that anyone "knows" that these people had AS/Autism/ASD, we don't know that, we'll never know, and honestly the thought was probably created by some people on the spectrum as a means of getting people to stop harassing them. I personally no more believe that any of these famous people had an ASD than I believe that the government tells us the truth about anything. Could I be wrong? Sure, any of us could, and if there were some way to prove my belief wrong, I would adjust my facts accordingly. Until then, this is what I think. Sorry if that's upsetting to anyone, but it's more like grabbing at straws and I'd rather think that's not a path we should be seen going down, especially since these claims can't be proven (since these people lived before diagnosis was even possible, and certainly before it was common), people would surely see that as a sign of a superiority complex and it's hard enough to get people to realize the reality of our situation, we don't need to add to their already crappy outlook on us all.

Ironically enough... I wrote about this... HERE Please stop trying to diagnose and claim dead people...

Further... the entire point of my series is that there is no us vs them... it is just US... Here is a brief poem, also featured on my blog, on the subject...

Travel (a brief poem on Autism Spectrum Disorders)
by Kristopher Hoffman (that's me)

We are all in the same little boat.

I don't see a they or them.
I only see us.

we are all in the same boat.
It's the same journey
A ship of fools.

There is no They.

It's us versus them.
Yet, if there is no they - no them
Who is the enemy?
Staring down the barrel of a loaded gun
a gun of misfiring, misfit, miswiring

I have seen the enemy
I have seen the enemy and he looks terribly familiar
Miswired misfit of a misfired society

I see the enemy.

It's hard to aim in the mirror.

I have seen the enemy
and the enemy is not they...
it is us.

We are all on the same boat
We are all screwed
Screwed together on the same boat
The same boat on choppy waters
swaying, dangling ftom the yard arm
Taken where ever the wind blows.

There is no they
Not that I can see
I only see us.

Also... please do not hijack this thread... this discussion is WAY off topic and has nothing to do with what this thread was created for.

Very nice..I could not agree more with this insight of poetry...

I posted this in a comment of your last blog post too, but what about people as a special interest or an aspie getting obsessed with another person as a topic? I know awhile back you asked for some ideas for topic, so here goes :D

I apologize if you've already seen this or if I'm being repetitive. I really enjoy the blog!

Question on this special interest... are you referring to a) being obsessed with a character/fictitious character b) a celebrity/famous person or c) someone in your life?

Another point just to confuse ;)

What if an aspie has "social interaction" as special interest?

As I have no frame of reference for that, it would not be something I would be able to discuss on the blog with an amount of factuality or expertise... and as such, would not be a topic I feel I could cover

I was thinking more like a real person whether it is someone you know or some celebrity or famous person rather than a fictional character. I would think fictional characters (like Spock or Katniss Everdeen) would fall more into a more broader special interest (Star Trek or Hunger Games). By being "obsessed" with the other person, the aspie would do things like immensely look them up online, "stalk" their social media, have the urge to talk to them multiple times each day, overly talk about them to others, etc. Just speaking from a bit of personal experience here, because I know I can't be the only one here who has ever obsessed over a person

Oh, I agree... I am just not sure how Aspie it is... as I have seen MANY MANY MANY NTs do the same thing...

I am considering it.

It's good that you covered that, I think self-advocacy is an important step to bettering ourselves as well as the general public's ideas about us. The more people realize that they know someone on the spectrum (not all do, but a lot do), the less likely they are to believe some nonsense about those on the spectrum, and they're more likely to defend their friends with facts when they hear others talk about said nonsense. In a best case scenario anyway lol.
