I secretly love threads like this... I love how things like this are totally ok in this community :) You guys are great!

What is your first name?: Kirsten, though I hate how my name sounds. Too nasal-y.

Age: 18

Location: Amherst, MA

Hobbies and Interests: Biology, forensic science, anatomy and physiology, pathology, murder, poisons/neurotoxins, monsters, horror, art, writing (short story fiction, mostly), politics

Why are you here?: I've only recently (within the past year) discovered the autistic community, and self-diagnosed myself with ASD (as well as been diagnosed by many aspies I know haha), and I've never seen an aspie forum before. I love hearing about people so similar to me when all my life I've been bullied/prodded at for being "strange"

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Next monday I go in for an official diagnosis, though my doctor + therapist agree that I seem autistic. Now I'm just waiting for the official stuff.

Favorite subjects: In high school, I liked biology/science in general, german, english, and art. I'm a freshman in college, and I'm majoring in biology, so I guess that's my favorite subject now lol.

Year/Grade: college freshman, class of 2013.

Favorite music: everything. At the moment I really like rap (NWA, ice cube, dr. dre, etc), lady gaga, and vitallic, to list some new additions. I've always loved wir sind Helden, Peter Fox, duran duran, the doors, meat loaf, the delays, ok go, etc etc.

Books: Lolita and IT are my two favorite books, though I read LotR when I was in third grade, so tolkein will always have a place in my heart. Right now I'm pretty obsessed with stephen king.

TV shows/Movies: BREAKING BAD, god, I've never seen a better show. The acting, the music, the cinematography... it's better than most films, let alone TV shows... and most of the science is accurate! I also like Dexter. When I was in elementary school I was very obsessed with CSI, but I stopped watching it once it turned into more of a drama and less of a crime show. I used to watch House, but I haven't had cable in about 4-5 years...

Instrument: I used to play the clarinet. Never really got into playing music. I'm not very good at it.

Do you like sports?: Never have, probably never will. Though I still like to watch the world cup.

Family: only child with a single mother, which I highly suspect of having Asperger's, though I won't press her. My father lives in california, and even my mother admits that he's incredibly aspergian...

Clothing: Whatever fits me and I can afford... I like teal...

How did you find this website?: I was using google for Asperger's research.

Job: Nothing right now... god, I need income. I used to work for best buy, but it bored me too much. (I worked in the mobile department. ugh)

Plans for the future?: I'd love to be a forensic pathologist and do autopsies. That would be the life.

Any comments?: asdfghjkl

What is your first name? Don

Age: 43

Location: St. Paul, MN

Hobbies and Interests: KARAOKE!! ! And... Rock music, science education, scooters, and cheese (eating, not making) Ask me tomorrow and the list will be different

Why are you here? You guys don't care if I suck at small talk! You guys get it! Any time, day or night, I can always chat with someone else who gets it. I was diagnosed a month before I turned 43. Before then I thought I was just inherently a lazy, loathsome A-hole. (Can I say that for real on this board?)

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): September, 2009

Favorite subjects: Nutrition, any bioscience, aviation, drama (especially Shakespeare)

Year/Grade: HS: 1984, BS: 1997, PhD: 2002

Favorite music: Classic rock - Grand Funk Railroad, Boston, Pink Floyd, old Joe Cocker, anyone who played at Woodstock, Three Dog Night, Thin Lizzy, most anything with crunchy Marshall-driven electric guitars.

Books: History books covering 2nd Temple Judea through Constantine & the Nicene Council, Harry Potter

TV shows/Movies: Harry Potter (all, but the first is my fave), documentaries, Godzilla movies if there's a little alcohol involved, Shakespeare, auto racing (lately anyway)

Instrument: Rickenbacker 4003 jet black 4-string bass!! ! (That's the one in my avatar pic.)

Do you like sports? I like to play volleyball and occasionally watch football or auto racing (F1, Indy, NASCAR, whatever's on)

Family: Best we don't go there. Let's just say "not supportive and not interested."

Clothing: Jeans in the winter, shorts the rest of the year, and whatever shirts are cheap

How did you find this website? I can't remember... Think I was googling around the time I was diagnosed.

Job: Well, I used to have one. I did research and I taught anatomy & physiology. Getting the degree was far easier than making the career. Lots of serious problems now in my head, so I'm not working.

Plans for the future? Learn how my brain actually works, and then try to be happy more often than I'm anxious or depressed.

Any comments? Very, very grateful for this site, and for any opportunity to interact with others on the spectrum. Sometimes this loneliness feels so heavy and so painful I think it's gonna get the best of me, but interacting with people who understand me will surely help with that. My diagnosis was ~7 months ago, but I've only started seeing an ASD specialist 2 weeks ago. I have 43 years of self-loathing to undo. At least now I know it's got a name, and I know it's not my fault, and for me that's HUGE!
